I hate windows 8 as well. There are just so many little annoying things. I have been a windows build your own PC guy for a long time. But windows 8 finally forced me to a mac. I just don't like the direction Microsoft is going. My trading takes place on a remote server so don't really need windows on my local PC. I will probably put windows 7 on a virtual machine on my mac for a few pieces of software. Let me just say as I sit here on my completely quite i7 iMac on OSX life just makes more …

I have 3 machines in my home running Win 8.1 now and we like them. Great OS for us. On my test/play laptop I also installed Ubuntu on a separate partition just to run some dev tools for python scripting/learning for DevOps training. However, it appear Win 8.1 is a very capable dev OS and so I installed alot of python scripting tools like Anaconda and iPython along with a free VM from Oracle that boots into a CentOS distro w/ all the peripherals pre-configured and working.

Our main media/infotainment system is a desktop attached to our TV running an Intel 256GB SSD with 16GB of RAM The boot time on that machine is about 20 seconds from pressing the power button to entering password and the desktop appearing, ready to go.
