I think that there must be a valid reason for putting someone on a ignore list. You have always the right to post something and if the thread starter wants too ignore you, if there is no valid reason for it, then the only thing he can do is not answering your question.
If you buy a cellphone and the operator do not give you permission to call someone do you stay with that operator?
On the other line the phone has too ring, now the person has 2 choices, answer the phone or not answer it.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Mike, please feel free to flog me (or put me on ignore, as long as you give yourself permission to do so) for wasting your server space by starting such a ridiculous series of posts. I hang my head in shame and leave now.
I have bounced from forum to forum over the years and this is by far the best format that I have found.
Someone said it looked a bit dated...so what...it is comfortable here, well laid out and differentiated between paying and non-paying subscribers...simply making it look prettier is not worth the cost to futures.io (formerly BMT).
As a long term stock trader, I have been pleasantly surprised at the response to my comments and journal area. My views are well tolerated and I appreciate the non-confrontational discussion. I have seen instances where BM has shut down a user for spam, or aggressive posts. I have not had a reason to use that little yellow triangle with the exclamation point to complain of abuse or inappropriate content of another poster but I get the feeling that if I did the situation would be addressed (this is not always the case on other sites).
I think it would be nice to have more discussions on individual stocks for short or long term play...but that will happen more for me as time goes on. That being said I don't feel out of place here and overall the members of this site are usually quite respectful even if their views differ.
I am not a fan of change for change sake. You only have to look at the mess that Yahoo has made of their current updated site format. I used to enjoy using that site but now it is riddled with bugs and lack of customer service.
I am sort of an outsider here being that I don't participate in most aspects of trading that this site supports. But I am comfortable and enjoy talking about the type of trading I do AND discussion about Canadian as well as American stocks. The international flavour of this site is interesting as well.
Would I change anything here...not from my standpoint. I think this site is very well run.
@Underexposed it was me who said it looked a bit dated. @Big Mike asked for "opinions" on what could be done to improve the site. I do some web design and the look of the web has changed quite a bit. I gave my opinion in a constructive manner. I don't think you should disparage someone else's comment as opinions were asked for. I think it is important as you stated to tolerate others comments and be respectful.
I made it real clear design is highly subjective and I have no problem with it staying the same. The forum is great and that is why I am here. If Mike did not change a thing I would be happy but I appreciate his willingness to make it even better.
"The day I became a winning trader was the day it became boring. Daily losses no longer bother me and daily wins no longer excited me. Took years of pain and busting a few accounts before finally got my mind right. I survived the darkness within and now just chillax and let my black box do the work."
some damn consistency with the TGIF message in the chat box. Also, Other websites send me chocolate chip cookies from time to time. I'll think of a third thing...oh yeah I hate when the high scores reset in the arcade and some loser gets high score for a few days.
You only feel this way because you are on the other side of it. You want to post in a thread where the thread starter put you on ignore.
If you would instead consider for a moment that you create your own thread, and a user is annoying you, then you want the ability to put that user on ignore which prevents them from replying to any thread that you started.
I have posted it in the nexusfi.com (formerly BMT) 5.0 thread before, the only thing that I am missing is the ability to conveniently select all from a code post. That is not a deal breaker, but I have seen a couple of examples were users ran into an issue because they didn't copy/paste the whole code.
If this is easy to do with the new forum software great, if not no problem, just leave it the way it is.
This is an example taken from the Tradestation forum, the code box stays smaller thus is not too distracting, you can scroll through the whole code and have an option to select all of it.
That's about the only thing I can think of and as most users probably feel like me and don't like too much change at once all is good. If you want to know how to not change a forum's appearance, check what happened when Elitetrader did it
1) when you scroll to the bottom of the page, could there be a large "next" button... So we simply click that to go to the next page? Rather than clicking on the page numbers. Yes, it's a small thing... A minor improvement, that would be great for smartphone use.
2) this next one is a bit more complicated. If there was somehow a closed forum that was only open to people who were consistently successful traders. I wouldn't care about the size of account they were trading, but it would be an amazing forum to have discussion with other private traders who were consistently extracting alpha from the market. Yea, this one is a little tougher to achieve, but the benefits would be priceless....
