This topic is not entirely trading related, I just find it interesting but if you read it, you will find some relevance to trading as many people (financial advisors, educators and brokers) will try to use these technices on you.
First off: What is manipulation?
I would define it as hidden action by somebody (the manipulator) to make someone (the week minded) to do something (give away assets /money/sex/work/support) for their own benefit.
Why do they do it?
It's easier to aquire the mentioned assets without putting in their own time/energy(=work).
Why is the manipulative action hidden?
Because if it was direct, it would be called leadership. And not all people can be lead who can be manipulated.
How does it work?
It targets the subconciouss mind and makes you belive in things which are not fully rational or detailed enough to be accurately true.
What are the tools of manipulation?
It can be art (media, the whole advertisement industry), behaviour (roleplaying or faking, in poker it's called bluffing) or verbal.
If you don't want to be a subject of manipulation
- don't watch TV (ads) don't read magazines, block everything which is advertisement related.
- don't engage with people who are seemingly try to control others by not showing their true intentions
About verbal manipulation I want to write in more detail.
Basically you can put thoughts into someone's mind by being non-direct in your use of terms. You use a lot of words which are percived as "logical" in the context (this is why concious mind let's it through to the subconciouss mind) but the terms are not EXACT, worst case they cannot be found in a dictianary or only have a methaforic meaning.
Things get worse when someone is subject to believe in supersticions. In this case you can feed them with "anything".

I've only fallen for it once, this BITCH pretended to be my best mate for 3 1/2 years, then my girlfriend for 11months to split me up with someone else to keep taking my money, 11months not 1 peck on the lips seriously!
Yes the Psychopath on your other thread.
£7000 GBP lesson, I won't be repeating any time soon.
Needless to say, when the lies where found out, I burned her so no 1 else would ever trust her and got rid of.
Rumour has it she's currently locked up in a mental hospital, no surprise there.
I think (i am sure) manipulation can be much more subtile...
But as a trader,
you have a job which is YOU and the MARKET
You should always think of yourself first, every trade is a risk, you choose yourself to take it or not
and at any moment you can exit it, you decision
WHY ? as a good trader, confronted to your partner, you all of a sudden would be victim of
manipulation, while you know very well the game of manipulation, the market is trying to lure
you into a trade all the time.
You should stay objective, stick to the plan, follow the rules, also when it comes to a relationship
Yes there are feelings that make the hormones rage,
But don't be blind for a partner that just want to rip you off
analyse.. observe.. stay calm
when necessary take the right decision
A relationship can also be very much strengthening
if the partner knows to unlock the best in you
give you the extra motivation
for sure if the partner is the hindring element : stop/loss ! get out of your trade(partner)
She was a bit quirky, didn't think full on Psychopath, yes there was hints, but super intelligent into climbing like me, into trading and programming / IT stuff like I do for a living, worked with her on a project how I met her.
She has some normal health issues and a dad that used to fiddle with her, she kinda used as excuses to never let me kiss her, while planning our family, when she gets better, well she actually got better but kept lying to me LOL
She didn't get much money out of me, after about 3months in thankfully, had my suspicions but seriously who'd ever think anyone would lie for money and cigarettes that badly.
Basically, she hates everyone who isn't her daddy, dad's dead, but she's still chasing that special relationship with men old enough to be her daddy to do fiddle sick fantasy's with LOL ( found out about all this after ofcourse ), I'm the same age and not a closet gay so I had ZERO chance.
The market is neutral and has no intentions as it is not living and breathing. (If you think so, you have a vivid imagination)
There are certain charatreistic which shift odds in one or the other direction.
How much you want to trade is only your desire. And if your entries are based more on feel than sound judgement than your criteria for entry is not clear enough. Also this perception can come from the nature how the brain works: it will see patterns even in smashed potatos.
