The squawk boxes were never news feeds. They were audio pickups in the pits, giving the sound of the activity of the pit traders. Sometimes the volume and tempo supposedly would tell you something about the action on the floor, although I never could get anything from it myself that I could put to use. I tried it, but then just turned the thing off.
There's no pit trading anymore, so there's no pit squawk. There used to be some reason, at least some people thought so, to have a live audio feed, sometimes with commentary about who was doing what, with the sound of the pit and a sense of its activity. No longer.
Nor will there be. There's no pit.
Audio news feeds? No idea. Different subject.
