The user albrooks is real, it's Al Brooks, I helped him create the account and I wouldn't describe him as tech savy, so he probably was just trying to search for threads with his name in them...
The more I think about it the more bizarre it gets.
Who searches their name? Have you guys ever done that upon signing up to a site? Do they think people have written in relation to their username before they joined?
IF they are just testing things out why would they type their user name into the chat instead of a greeting like "hey guys, just joined here", or maybe a test with some random letters like "adsfafdsd", "chat", "test".
IF the purpose of posting their name is get attention, and we respond to them like we usually do, why don't they respond back?

Yup, not sure. I don't understand how anyone can mistake it for the search box either, but it happens all the time. But I can promise you they are real people, not zombie bots that pay $100 to become Elite Members in order to write a cryptic post then go away, lol.
The next time it happens you could send the person a PM or reply in chatbox and ask them if they need help, see if they will tell you why they typed their name... since it really upsets you
There's definitely a pattern to it whether it be an act of clumsiness or something more deliberate. I'll send those users a pm asking them if they need help and why they posted their name. I'll let you guys know what's going on if I get a response but the likelihood of getting a response is slim since they don't post much at all or chat.
