I have never run a benchmark tool before but I am very curious to see what kind of numbers this machine will produce. I will try and get you the numbers using the tools you mentioned sometime this weekend.
So I ran Passmark benchmark. The results are below. The CPU test gets a 99% percentile rating. My AMD 8350 (no overclock) gets a 75% rating. I am feeling pretty good about putting in all those hours researching and putting together the Xeon system
Your CPU mark is out of this world. I didn't know they were so powerful.
I think if you put an NVMe SSD m.2 your machine may fly!
Look at the impact of an m.2 on my overall results (i7-6700K with an m.2 memory and Quadro K1200 on a 4K monitor)
All of this in a very small case, no noticeable noise, and 120W consumption at full power (around 50W idle). My office is too small (9'x9'), heat and noise would create a very uncomfortable place to work 14 hour days!
Wow! I almost bought the samsung m.2 drive but I was already spending way more than I wanted to. Maybe later on, I might still do it and move my database over.
There is nothing I can do about the RAM. I have overclocked mine to 1866 and thats the max I can go.
I left my K1200 in my old machine. This one is using a GTX 960 to run three 40" 4K monitors at 60Hz just fine. I am sure the K1200 is going to perform better but as long as I can see my charts, it should not be a problem.
I moved my system over and brought it up for the first time. During startup, my system reads a lot of data from a SQL Server database and the file system. I managed to capture a screenshot to confirm that all cores were being used at that time. I can tell that my system load time is cut in half, if not more. I am hoping that I get similar results when the system is dealing with real-time market data.
EDIT: NxCore API utilizes only 1 thread when reading tape files. When I ran one of my programs that only uses the NxCore API, I could see that a single thread was being used while it accessed the downloaded tapes. SQL Server reads use all 32 threads.
