I recently got a 15" HP OMEN. I like it. It's thin and light-ish since it doesn't have an optical drive nor a built-in Ethernet port (came with a USB Ethernet adapter). It's got a snappy i7, 500 GB SSD, dedicated Nvidia video card and 16GB RAM. It's a gaming machine so it's built for speed. It has a touch screen but I never use it, but it's there in case you're interested in that.
Configured the way I wanted it, they wanted $2300 but I had a 30% off coupon so it was a little over $1600. I've had it for a month now and am really happy with it.
I never saw the movie so I wouldn't know. Sounds omen-ous.
I don't ever trade on it though, so maybe I'm not a good judge of a what a good trading laptop is or not. But I do lots of analysis, number crunching and testing on it and it chews through all of that stuff like nobody's business. All of my trading is executed on a dedicated, co-located Dell server with dual Xeons and 32 GB of RAM running Win 2012 server.
Got me a Lenovo 15.6" with a 2160 rs, 2.5GHz SSD after some research. I think it's going to be just right to trade on.
However I'm a bit uncertain about the MS OS. This thread seems to be slanted towards 7 (the lappy I got is 8.1). My computer guy that has been a Beta tester for MS OS's since we were teens is really super excited about 10. NJ does not seems to have an issue with 10 and scaling issues with ms seems to be resolved for 4K's in 10.
I'm wondering if you tested in 10 and what is the reason in sticking to 7? (I suspect speed and NJ's lag in development for updated OS.)
