How long did it take you to become a **consistently** profitable trader?
Would also like to add, not only is how long someone else took to become consistently profitable irrelevant to you, how quickly you become consistently profitable does not reflect your potential or "talent". The top trader at SMB (at least when "one good trade" was written) took much longer and struggled to become profitable compared to the rest of the traders there.
Understanding yourself is just as important as understanding markets.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
As a counterpoint, just to show the relevance of threads like this:
Let's say you have just left college and looking for something to do. You know somebody who is trading and that person is very successful and got to be profitable after a few months. So you tell to yourself, geee, that sounds easy money, why don't I just become a trader?
Then just in case, you decide to research the topic, and after googling it you find a thread like this. Then the average answer will be 3-5 years, not just a few months. Now you have a much better picture just what it takes to become a profitable trader, and you don't have to go by the 1 sample that is clearly an outlier.... And then you decide you don't have another 3-5 years to waste on a maybe, and you stick to your original college major...
Because of this, threads like this have value, no matter who asked the question....
1. Yes, and absolutely killing the pig since the recent spike in volitility
2. Been at it 25+yrs and been busted out flat penniless broke several times, still a work in progress, we are only as good as our last trade. Hopefully I have learnt some lessons over the years.lol
3. Every spare hour.
