I was on holiday for a week. I say that because being able to distance myself from the thread gave me time to consider this: to me Japan is a very special place. I love going back there every time. If (and I'm stressing if) there is a tendency for some or even the large majority of Japanese people to be insular, isn't perhaps part of what makes Japan what it is today?
