I've recently successfully completed a TopStep Trader combine and I am set to start trading Live on Monday. I've decided to start this journal to help keep myself accountable and make sure I stay focused.
I've been a losing trader for the last 3 years, blown more accounts then I can even remember and made every possible mistake a newbie trader can make. I've failed more than 10 TopStep trader combines before finally beating this one. I have major problems with discipline and following rules and if I want any shot at success I know I need to fix this as soon as I can.
After trying every possible indicator and method that I could think of I have finally found something that works for me and it is what I used to get funded with TopStep. It's not complicated or fancy but I will get more into it as I post my daily results.
I plan on posting daily results along with the trade setups I took and why. For now I'll just start this off with the results of my combine and funded prep.
A little more transparency before I get started Monday. After I did so well in the combine and funded prep only having 2 losing days I got way over confident and felt invincible. I actually felt like I would never have any losing days again. I was so confident in my new found trading methodology that I wanted to trade live with it as soon as possible and didn't want to wait for my Top Step account to be set up so I decided I would add a small amount of money to my existing AMP account and continue trading the strategy that I was so confident in. Unfortunately things didn't go well and before I knew it I wasnt trading anything close to my strategy which was the whole reason I decided to trade that account in the first place. So while it's quite discouraging to burn a bunch of money before I even start trading with TopStep I am now refocused and determined to stick with what works and follow my rules.
A friend pointed out how interesting it is that I managed to do well while trading in the parameters of the combine but as soon as I was on my own I went off the rails. Having the rules that you have to follow otherwise you're done is very helpful it seems.
I'm excited to move forward and do well from here. I may not be able to trade in the morning while I'm still waiting for them to get me my login info but assuming I can get setup sometime in the morning I will look for any existing opportunity and go from there. If they don't get me setup until midday I may wait to start until Tuesday.
