Hey Mastadee,

My questions might have been answered, if yes just please direct me accordingly.
  • Do you find the smaller account to trade much more challenging? If yes, why?
  • Are you consistently profitable on your other account?
I'm just asking because on your cumulative pnl chart it looks like as soon as you hit a certain gain percentage you hammer down your account. I do the same sometimes and for me it is connected with a belief that I'm getting into pnl territory that I don't think/believe I deserve.

Thanks for sharing your journey!

Hi,

thanks for your comments.

Yes, as previously stated in past comments, it has been harder for me trading just 1 lot on a small account. Because you can't really scale out and book profits along the way which I find easier for mind and soul to put something in your pocket and be happy So overall that has been the hardest for me over the past month.

On you second question, yes I have been profitable but just barely and it's enough to pay bills and survive from it. However, it's not that I can just make 10-20k a month and don't worry about money as I'm still working on my patience to take out more out of the market. My issue has been and still is to look for larger profits and just stay in the trade much longer.

And yes most of the time when I'm profitable and reach my daily goal, I would then just stop trading and as the past has showed me when I was profitable for the day and then lose it all again to zero, then I did get very upset and start revenge trading, which then just leads to more losses. However, it also prevents me to turn a good day into an amazing day profit-wise. So it's always a trade off and I guess, it's also due to fear of losing and not being confident and aggressive enough.

I think if you are taking $ out of the market, you are searching to take it to the next step.Believe me, i wish i was there!

I am sorry to see the end of the challenge. I have enjoyed your journal. Since you said it is "live trading account" I assume it is real money and not sim account -- so I understand how you feel. All I can say is trading is not easy and I have been on this road for a long time. I am currently on TopStep Trader FTP but I am pretty close to hitting the max loss.

I looked at the beginning posts of your journal and seemed to see your max loss was defined at $1000 and goal $1000 profit. Am I right? Since you trade CL, I would think $1000 loss is quite small so don't be so hard on yourself. On the other hand, this amazes myself from time to time with my own trades as well --- that the market can make $900 from you (today) by just taking your small losses. If we flip, why can't we make $900 from the market by taking small profits from the market? Something to think about.

Thank you and best wishes.

Yes it is a live trading account with real money. I hope you can turn your FTP with topstep trader around and continue trading with them. Best of luck to you!!

Exactly, the goal was reaching 1k for the month with a 1k max risk. Of course, 1k on CL isn't really big and I'm not too fuzzed about it. However, it shows that CL might not be the right instrument for a tiny account as you can lose and win big. Hence, the account can quickly deteriorate.

Don't worry about it and certainly no reason to feel embarrassed - we all know how trading is and have been there. I know it's hard to post a big loss but kudos for making the post. Posting in public is a brutal process, IMO.

I think the reason you pushed is just as you said:
"as I told myself, I would be very aggressive today in order to show that it could be doable to trade with a small account."

It's the same reason I blew up yesterday trying to push to hard at the end.

You're out in front in the vote count - so should you win I hope you'll post your combine each day - but no pressure. :-)

hey at least this is a small account for you!!

Good trading!!

Sure, if I get the combine I would definitely continue to post and show the combine trades.

I see a recurring theme in trades documented here, and probably the number one account killer: way too many shorts on steady or grinding up days. Today is a good example. It's as if we're hardwired to have a permanent short bias. I suffer from this issue myself, and have not find a good way to fight this.

yeah I prefer shorts overall as these moves are normally much faster and it's easier for my patience issue. Normally it's elevator down and steps up. Of course, that is a problem if we have slow grinding days up as I will start to look for reversals and we might don't see any and then I'm just wrong and get stopped out...

I see that you have 11 members following your CL efforts. Hopefully, we can get everyone engaged in the CL thread.

The CL Crude-analysis Thread

I will create an album of my ThinkOrSwim results for my trading plan. There is a lot of detail that may help others get some insight. Most of it paper trading but also several live trades generating over $6,500 in profits to then blow it by improperly dealing with personal issues.

Thank you @mastadee for sharing your efforts.

I guess I reached the maximum amount of pictures that my account allowed me (48). Only Elite members have more space I believe.

How much did you lose on your bet ?
I think its less than you lose on worst day of month of July.

EGO, we all have egos, I think you wanted to prove that you can make money.
I also had good run 17 days without losing and up 32 % and then
3 days happened, month of July up only 7 %

How to keep EGO in check ?
