Indicator to Plot the OHLC - user selected start/stop times I have searched the futures.io (formerly BMT) and Ninja forums for an indicator that will do the following on NT7: (have not found one)
Plot the OHLC (each selectable on/off), selectable std line attributes, and user defined fill-in labels, eg. 'Open', etc. Lines would extend right until next defined calculation time.
With user defined start stop times on an ES data series, eg "CME US Index Futures ETH" Session Template
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
What exactly do you need that for? Do you want to plot night session pivots (Globex) or do you want to see the opening range, or what is your idea behind it? I have some indicators doing this, but I would need a specifiic example to understand what you are looking for.
Yes - i want to plot the Globex H/L, the H/L from 2 - 5 AM CST, and the first hour Open/high/low (8:30 - 9:29 CST). As stated above want to be able to label the lines (user defined) and have the lines extend right until end of set 'Session Template' time.
Here are three charts for ES. All use the ETH session template (Globex session)
Chart 1 : Indicator which plots Current OHLC of the Globex session. It will display the Globex high and lows until they are taken out by price action. The indicator also shows midline and Fib sections of the current day's range. It automatically adapts to two day sessions, if trade date is next day.
Chart 2: Opening range indicator. It plots the high, low and the midline of the opening range. It also plots the RTH open. You can adjust length of the RTH session, which counted back from the end of the Globex session as per session template, and you can adjust the lenght of the opening range. This is work in progress.
Chart 3: Shows the same indicator as on chart two. The RTH open is set to transparent, and the labels read opening range, which could be changed. But it does display the high and low of that period between 2:00 and 5:00 in the morning (on my chart it would be 8:00 to 11:00, as I am on CET).
Would just need to change the labels (fast), or to make them user selectable. It also need different settings for different instruments.
Yes - this is what I have been looking for. I had this capability with Trade Station but I have move completely to Ninja 7.
On attached you can see what the TS indicators produced. I had 1 indicator for Globex H/L, another indicator for London 2-5AM CST H/L, one indicator for Regular session Open, and one indicator for First Hour (FH H/L) on attache the FHL is still showing previous day FHL as the current 1st hour is not complete.
The lines updated H/L until the close of the stated time period then stayed persistent on the chart until replaced the next session start - Globex, London, Regular Session.
That is basically what my indicator does. It adapts to the underlying session template, so if you select the US Index Futures ETH session (Globex), the indicator will display the lines until the end of the session at 4:15 PM.
From there you have to calculate backwards to enter the start time. For example for the 2:00 AM to 5:00 PM period you will have to enter
- the difference between start time of the period and the session end time -> 14 hours and 15 minutes
- the length of the selected period -> 3 hours
I could also preconfigure the indicator for different instruments.
For the labels you would have to edit the indicator and change them in program code, then save and compile the indicator under a new name. Could you do that?
Will make it available shortly. Just some questions prior to this:
It now works in session logic. So it adapts correctly to all session times and compesates daylight savings time.
There are two issues that I need to fix.
Preset times for the opening range
Actually I do not want to open the indicator panel each time I change from ES to FDAX and then to 6E, so all the opening range times should be set via indicator dialogue box.
User defined labels
This is a headache, as I need to read the strings and then transfer them to a custom plot method.
So my question: Which instruments do you trade and which opening range times do you use?
