I tried on my desktop which has Ubuntu 10.10. I made sure the Wine version was stable. I get the same error message. I am getting this on 2 different computers. The commonality is me. I may have made a mistake somewhere along the line (it would not be the first time), but I really suspect the issue is WINE/SC/Rithmic has an issue somewhere. I don't know what happens in SC when the order is placed, but that is when the error message pops up.
I have reached my technical expertise limits.
My focus is on:
1. Avoid the opening chop.
2. Honor stops
3. Ensure reward > risk on all trades
Interestingly, I ran into exactly your experience today when I successfully installed and ran the new MBT Desktop Pro on my Linux, however, when I submitted a Buy/Sell order, the MBT Desktop Pro just crashed but did not shutdown; it just relaunches itself. If I'm able to resolve this, it may give a lead in resolving your Ubuntu challenge. I don't have this issue with my IQFeed/SC setup.

Well, I threw in the towel (again). I removed WINE, deleted all hidden files, reloaded WINE, WINETRICKS, and then downloaded .net20, vcrun2008, and allfonts (using WINETRICKS) and then downloaded the latest Sierra Charts pre-release (707)....and guess what....it works.
Now less you think I had done something wrong (which I could have), SC support posted on their support board they had left some parameter out of the pre-release that impacted sending orders to Rithmic.
I have no idea if what I did or what SC support did fixed the issue, but I don't care. It works.
There is a viable alternative to the Windows world.

Now, I have an idea why my MBT Desktop Pro running on my Linux crashed on Buy/Sell Order submit; and it seems that I can't do anything about it unless MBT allows order routing on Linux. I'll contact MBT Support on the issue.

If anyone is interested in using Linux in your trading, you can get a demo of Sierra Charts with Rithmic data feed from Optimus. I am sure there are others, but I use Optimus because of the support I receive.
