Sorry, it was created in off-topic originally and that subforum doesn't have quick summary enabled. There is no way to create it now, but that is a topic for another time I moved the thread to traders hideout because I felt it was on-topic
If you take a look at sites like rentacoder, elance, freelancer, you will see a long list of jobs available for people that work out of their home office. A lot of them are creative jobs, a lot of them programming. Some of them are just pure writing (like article/blog posts).
I tried a couple of those at one time not too long ago and got nothing from it. Created my profile, submitted bids on jobs, etc. Never even got a nibble. Also, seemed like so many people were working for peanuts. I may have been on the wrong sites but that was my experience. I put in a lot of effort and got nothing so I quit trying.
Has anyone else had a better experience that I did?
I just decided to put a bit more effort into my computer/network consulting. I also do some remote assistance for people as well as ninja programming (yes I do some for a fee as well as all the free stuff I do). Would like to do more of the remote assistance.
There is one idea, my wife always shopping on internet, ebay/amzon/fatwallet/, for whatever reason, there always deals out there, and you can get them if you do your home work and research, HOWEVER, there are some deal you just need to BE there in front of the computer and click in time.
This matches perfect with trading, while you are waiting for your setup, you can search the deals and buy them/resell on ebay, Or just provide a service such as I-grab-a-deal-for-you, for example, A&F has thousands of items on sale, but for a specific style-color-size, there might/might-not be one, and there are many customer out there looking for their color-size to be available and grab it. I am sure they will pay some fee for such service.
Hope this make some sense.
You have good typing experiences/technical ability, why not find a trader/trading reseller or whatever and help them out.
Most of them can't trade their way out of a wet paper bag and lie about demo/live. Find a successful trader/company and work for them for peanuts and then dig into where you need to be etc..
My group I am a part of has a referral program that if I bring a trader who buys their program, I get a commission of 25% etc...
1 student could be a nice start for a trading account (2,500)
However, I struggled since I am not profitable with the system live that it is't right to 'sell something' that I have not yet been successful with. That is why I refrain from pointing people to my group/mentor.
There are a lot of 'salesman' out there that lack any sort of real trading ability, but they make a lot of money and could use the help from someone to assist them.
I think there is probably a lot more money made in forums, indicators and 'mentoring' than probably the successful traders make live. So I guess they are trading a different commodity. One that most people frown upon.
Thanks boys and girls for both practical and creative ideas! Before the trading venture, I got some great deals on certified organic clothings (most designed and made in the States) for the whole family (newborn, kids, men and women). Tried different channels incl eBay, Craiglist and Kijiji and flyer distribution in the neighborhood. Zero bid from several eBay attempts (starting price @0.99 + a very reasonable shipping & handling fee)!! Zero lead from the flyer channel (1,000 households). 1 sale from Kijiji and made $5 net profit.
For the record, I was selling the organic products @50%, then 10-25% of regular retail price. For example, a 100% organic cotton short- and long-sleeve T-shirts for men @$9.50 and $7.50 respectively while they're selling @$50 and $30 retail. Not even 1 enquiry from anywhere. Oh, I have 200+ friends in my circulation list and only got 1 sale for a lady's T-shirt.
After 1.5 years fruitless efforts, I had Nelson's endorsement to donate them to some non-profit men's and women's shelters. At least 1,000+ in need will enjoy these healthy clothings! Yes, I lost a few thousands $ investment. I was wrong that people are getting more health-conscioius. I thought having a narrow few $ profit margin would work for my first organic business venture. Maybe I was too "cheap" and not spending enough $ on marketing. In short, I promise myself and Nelson that I will not start another business venture that will involve selling products. I maybe talented in some aspects. Unfortunately, product selling does not work for me.
I was a softskills trainer, event organizer and business consultant when I had my own consulting business. It's always my interest and passion to share my knowledge with others. Maybe I will write a book or create a blog on my trading experience .. haha ..
The only "tip" I am going to share with you guys on this topic is this: Learn Social Media inside and out!
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WordPress Blogging, etc. There is a technical side to this business outside of just sharing personal experience. This is a viable way to share your passion and skills without paying a dime!
Your brand/passion will not be build overnight, but you will build a following if you have certain expertise or at a very least some passion to share. If you think about it, this is how futures.io (formerly BMT) was built.
This can turn into much more than "extra change".
Many years ago I have learned how to use SEO (Search Engine Optimization), copy-writing and the use of landing pages to attract customers because I was so sick and tired of the useless ad agencies. This has helped me to build a solid trading clientele who has been with me for years.
Lastly, all I can say is that if you are looking at trading as an extra income solution, don't!
Trading is risk capital you can part with without changing your life style and having the ability to maintain a roof over your house. Before you trade, at the very least get very educated so when you do trade sudden changes in your capital don't overwhelm you (psychology).
Trading futures and options involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. You may lose more than your initial investment. All posts are opinions and do not claim to be facts. Please conduct your own due diligence. Use only Risk capital when trading Futures.

First of all, if I ran a call center, or a restaurant, etc, I would not hire you because you are over-qualified. I would be afraid you're just trying to get a temporary job and then after I train you to work for me you'd leave once you got a better-paying job more in-line with your skills and all of the training I did was a waste of my time.
I would think your technical skills are still valuable to somebody. As an independent consultant you need to network in your area. Find technical user groups, meetups (Meetup.com, Craigslist) or other groups of people in your profession that get together. Check with your local chamber of Commerce. You can create some leads there.
Also, the online freelance sites are pretty much a waste of time. Unless you're willing to earn the wage of someone in India, the Philippines or Eastern Europe you'll never win a bid. Freelancer.com lists "Metatrader" as a skill and I've been trying to get them to add "Ninjascript/Ninjatrader" programming as a skill someone can subscribe to and bid on, but they haven't added it yet.
On a personal note, why don't you send me your resume and I might be able to find some work you can do remotely, depending on what your technical skills are? I'll see what I can do.
