I'm thinking about trading at night and sleeping during the day. I live on the west coast. I would trade the London session and part of the New York session until 9AM. Is anyone currently doing this? I would like to hear how it's going for you.

I live in Asia, so the NYSE open is 930 or 1030pm for me. Most of my stuff is position and swing trades, though I do need to watch the first two hours of the cash session to update orders.

I would not want to do it overnight. While the financial returns would probably be better, the toll it would take on my non-trading life would not be worth it.

It is a personal choice and depends on your situation. There is money to be made preopen if you are careful, so perhaps waking up earlier/calling it a day earlier is an option? Best of luck with your choice. Sleep patterns are really important to your mental and physical health IMHO.

I'm assuming you are talking about day trading. For a couple months I traded 11:00-2:00 then 5:00-9:00, because after the first 3 hours of the London session (account for DST) it usually died off pretty good, so I would go nap. But it was much harder than I expected to get use to those hours and it really started to wear on me after while so I stopped doing it. Regardless, IMO, there are plenty of opportunities in the first 3-4 hours of either session, so I would recommend to anyone they just pick one and go with it. But everyone is different, so it couldn't hurt to give it a shot for a few days and see how you like it.

I do it... I used to only trade ES in NY hours, About 10 months ago I started waking up at 1-2am EST time and trade the London session, and ended up staying up to NY close most days. I love the London session, it takes some time for your body to get used to the adjustment so I would maybe sim until you are adjusted to it.

I trade london sesh and us morn sesh from hawaii. i moved from nq to 6e and I dont regret it. Takes some getting used to but if you like trading forex or currency fx i think it'll be worth your time. If your just getting started trading, the london sesh will up your screentime...

thats depending hardly on what + how you trade i think.

if you prefer trading fast charts,
NQ iE is not easy during london-session
CL also is not that actice / liquide.

but if you trade 5, 15, 60 min swingtrading, its another thing.

6E is at its best during during london-session.

so there are diff things to look at.

My time is GMT+1. I trade only 6E and CL.

My night (sleeping hours) time falls exactly into Asian session and my day time is the whole of London session plus NY mid-session. Once in while, when I've not gone to sleep and I see any good setup @ within 1 hour of Tokyo Open, I take it and conclude it; thereafter, I go to sleep.

Although the last 2 hours of NY session is my night time (8:00pm - 10:00pm), I wouldn't have slept at that time, so when I see a good setup @ within this last 2 hours of NY session, I take it.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your night trading adventures!

I think the extra screen time would definitely be good for me. I really like trading 6E too.

It's about 3 AM PST right now. Nice and quiet with no distractions.

I think I could really get into this night trading routine...

When I'm in Hawaii, I trade 6E and 6J at night. More than enough action to make it worth while plus, I don't like waking up so early to trade the US cash open.
