Posted this elsewhere but the Aeron is really comfy if you are average-sized and after trying 2-3 cheap substitutes, we gave up and ordered 20 of them for our office.
beneficial to stand and move around during typical trading hours. I built a stand up desk and enjoy that, but it did take some time to adjust. However, for extended periods of focused screen work (typing as opposed to staring) that you may do @ Big Mike standing all day is not practical.
I do not rest my butt in one now, but the Herman Miller Aeron is far and away the best office chair that I have ever used. I do believe somewhat of an industry standard. I am a large man as well and I will say that sometimes the Aeron did put a little pressure on my outer thighs just above the knees. That might be because I sit way back in the seat and tend to have my knees open. It does not sound like you sit with that posture.
I do believe that the $1,000 investment into a prime ergo chair to be well worth it.
I might add that the Aeron was extremely durable and survived without muct detriment a great deal of non-typical shenanigans. Other chairs just crumbled under the same pressure.
I suggest you visit a store with the chairs in the showroom so you can try and see how each one works for you. Any Herman Miller dealer will have a good selection. I test drove the various models and ended up buying the Mirra.
I am diagnosed with slipped disc and it is really painful when I start having pain.
After going thru hell suffering with back pain I bought Steelcase Amia from Smart Furniture Onlne about 9 months ago. I haven't had any back problems since then.
My back always felt good and my pain used to subside whenever I sat in my Ford Fusion. I found out that they use Steelcase chairs in their Offices as well as cars. That is how I decided to buy a Steelcase chair.

I have had a lot of experience with back pain. I've gone through periods where it was a struggle to walk even with a cane and taking pain pills.
I rarely have back trouble now and I can tell you how I solved my back problems.
1. Weak abdominal muscles put extra stress on your back and can be a major contributing factor to back pain.
My solution is to do 20 repetitions (going all the way out) with an AB Wheel ($10 at Sports Authority) 3-4 times a week. Warning, start with a few reps and build up gradually. If you do too many to start with, you will have extremely sore stomach muscles.
2. Don't get dehydrated. It throws your body's electrolyte off and makes your muscles spasm more easily. Drink plenty of fluids (mostly water). If you do get dehydrated, sports drinks like Gaterade are not a good solution, too much sugar and to little K. I use a drink called Recharge, it is made from diluted fruit juices and has 1/2 the calories of Gaterade with twice the K. You don't need an electrolyte replacement if you don't let yourself get dehydrated.
3. I stretch my back frequently, it only takes a few minutes. I use 2 exercises. One is similar to a yoga position called The Cat (get on your hands and knees, hump your back, invert the hump, slide your hands forward and put your head down and your butt up, do it slowly and stretch fully). The second I call The Backover. It is best to do this on a thick rug or thin exercise mat (a bed mattress is too soft), if you try to do it on a bare floor, you could hurt your spine. I lay flat on my back with arms at my side, bring my knees up into my chest grab them with my arms and hold that position for a few seconds, then let go of my knees and continue rolling my legs up over my head and let my feet touch the floor, I put my arms straight up over my head and touch my knees to the floor. That puts my spine into a tight curl and really stretches it. I then put my arms by my side and bring my knees back to my chest and rock back and forth on my back a few times. I do this exercise very slowly and hold each position for a few seconds. It really helps keep my back aligned. If you are not flexible enough to do the full exercise, keep at it, eventually you will get there. Both of these exercises make your back feel really good if you do them regularly.
4. Don't sit for extended periods, it is very bad for your health. Most people don't know this but about 30 people a year die on long plane flights due to Pulmonary Embolisms. When you sit for extended periods without moving your legs, blood clots can form and if they travel up to your lungs they can prevent you from breathing and result in death. Try to get up at least once an hour and walk around for a couple of minutes. I like to go up and down a flight of stairs quickly to really get the blood flowing. Older people are more susceptible to blood clots but there are 20 and 30 year olds in the 30 per year who die on long plane fights.
5. I also made major dietary changes but since most are unwilling to do that, I won't bother with any details.
Steelcase makes excellent chairs. I had a lot of neck and back problems from sitting all day so got a steelcase leap. $800 chair but best money I have ever spent as my pain after years is gone. I also have a geekdesk with motor that can turn into standup desk. But the Steelcase is so good I don't need to standup at least from a pain perspective.
Let me also say I tried many different chairs up to about a $200 price tag and none of them worked. Honestly, I think if have back and neck problems you will have to spend some money to get right chair. A cheaper chair may look the same but it is not. You will either spend money on good chair or will pay the Dr. when you end up in chronic pain. The $800 chair is cheaper in the end much cheaper.

"The day I became a winning trader was the day it became boring. Daily losses no longer bother me and daily wins no longer excited me. Took years of pain and busting a few accounts before finally got my mind right. I survived the darkness within and now just chillax and let my black box do the work."
