I was breaking up a dog fight this morning and have injured my left pinky finger. I'm not sure if it is just swollen, broken or dislocated... i can't move it out of this position and the pain is very high.
Thoughts? (other than go to doctor... no health insurance)
Hard to see in bad pics but joint forward on finger is black and blue. I tried pulling it out and lifting up but pain was quite high, and am not sure if this is best thing to do or not.
Have no feeling in end of finger but that could be because of broken blood vessels, not sure.
Also as time goes on (1 hr now) it is hurting worse and worse Just looking for feedback on what I should do.. pull it out? I've had ice on it as well.
I have broken my right pinky knuckle like 5 times (fighting/boxing). One time the knuckle made its way all the way back to my wrist!
Anyways, the only thing I could do was move my knuckled best I could back into place and immobilize it and use lots of ice and anti-inflammatories. At least that is what the doctors suggested. Run some hydrogen peroxide over it also and try to clean anything out with peroxide and swab etc..
However, keep an eye out for redish warm spot around the area or streaks of red, then you will most likely have an infection and I suggest you RUN to a doctor for antibiotics. I was in a fight once where the guys tooth got stuck in my knuckle. It led to an unreal infection and I spent 3 days in the hospital and they were minutes away from amputating my arm. I ignored that little infection for about 2 days!
If it was broken, there would be significant swelling and it would be black/blue. Also, you'd be unable to bend it. Also, you may have heard a crack if it broke.
Have you disinfected the wound yet? Also, do you know about soaking it in a saltwater solution?
Your knuckle will automatically make its way back but you should do your best to buy a splint or something to hold your finger extended. (Pinky finger)
Leave it in the split for about 4-6 weeks and it will heal. Also know that it will 'break' very easily in the future from now on as it gets easier and easier. Doctors are useless in my opinion unless it is an absolute deathly emergency.
You can get the splint at walgreens, walmart or other drug store. Get the metal ones. I highly recommend the hydrogen peroxide, and visit to an urgent care facility. They will disinfect, bandage and splint the thing for you and you pay cash on the spot. Usually much less than a visit to the hospital. Also you may be looking at a rabies shot if the dogs are unvaccinated or if they are dogs you know nothing about.

Regarding the numbness, it wouldnt prevent me from being able to straighten out the finger right? That is the concern, it seems broken as it will not move past a certain point (about half way to being fully extended).
I have appointments all day today with contractors, I won't be able to go to a facility until late tonight if I really have to.
