Exporting to Excel is not a visual feature...unless you wanted to giving them a little promo..LOL

Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Since mattz isn't getting a lot of traction with this thread and since it would help me with a (non commercial) project I'm working on...
Post a mock up of your ideal single-screen trading GUI.
Buttons for "Buy Low," "Sell High," "Drink Beer," and "Get Laid" probably won't make the cut.
IF you were a beginning Ninja user (or any platform user) and IF there was a one-screen/two-screen workspace template download option with screenshots, would that help? I ask because I met someone who didn't like Ninja because it had no charts when he fired it up .
I look forward to seeing your GUI. Since I don't have much experince in interface design, I can't offer a mock up.
But if I could do my platform it would be 3 buttons: "I think it's going up" "I think it's going down" and finally "Get me the hell out" LOL
More than anything I am fascinated how some people get it right when it comes to human interaction and GUI.
So I thought I'll get some feed back from traders. But what I see is that it's hard to fully express likes and dislikes after you someone is using a platform for quite some time. it's the "it is what it is"...
Anyway, MXASJ I really appreciate your efforts on this and responding to this thread.

Bit of a delay in posting, unfortunately. I'm writing a basic app to the Ninja ATI (consider that an API with training wheels... kind of where I am now) to build my coding skills and have been totally distracted by the whole WinForms vs. WPF thing.
Anyway, I'm influenced by what's been on my desktop full time for trading the PA (Ninja and TOS), what I trial to see if there is a better way (currently Rithmic, TradeVec, and Marketcetera), and what's available in the office (IB, and... RTD Tango for now).
IMHO there is a chasm between systems guys and discretionary guys that will always exist. Show Tango or even my main Ninja workspace NoCharts (Control Center, Output window, Alerts window, and MA on one screen) to a discretionary guy and he will freak out. Show my AllScreens workspace (four DOMs, four charts, plus the NoCharts screen over four screens) to a systems guy and he'll laugh at how much computational resource you are sucking away from the actual order engine.
There is also the whole thing about what do you develop and test on vs. what do you trade on vs. what do you manage risk/do post-trade work on, but that is the subject of another thread.
You guys are brokers (speaking to mattz here) so maybe creating some example workspaces for your clients is an idea? Instrument lists (think GICS)? The more I play with GUI design the more I hope there is something else in the value chain I can contribute to because as you pointed out good GUI is hard... but some designers seem to really nail it. I don't consider myself in that category.
This is one of those "it depends" questions, and is why there are so many platforms out there and none of them seems to be a clear cut winner. Everyone is looking for something a little different, and ideally most beginners want a single platform that does everything, and most seasoned players use multiple platforms because none is really adequate.
For me, I am interested in a rock solid execution platform that is well suited to discretionary trading.
First is a good DOM that updates and executes orders fast. On a DOM, I like to see a PnL column to help determine target placement. The DOM should understand and update average prices and accumulate closed PnL on a per trade basis (flat to flat). It should also have an option to accumulate PnL on a FIFO or LIFO basis. Efficient quantity changes is also a must (configurable buttons works). Finally, a DOM should not be causing me transaction costs - monthly or per car.
Next is reasonable record management, including all orders, fills, and trade aggregation (flat to flat). I need to be able to verify my current position during the day, and also get a snapshot view of past daily totals.
Finally, is some form of chart trader. This one is really optional, because if it is not done right, I would just use a different charting package along side a good DOM. I dont need a lot of bells and whistles for charting, but there are several keys features I need. First, I have to be able to put a second instrument in a second pane as if it was an indicator. Second, cumulative delta (bid/ask/volume studies) have to be supported. Finally, I need good drawing tools that are easy to use.
Impressed! @MXASJ. This is a kick-ass GUI you designed, and I appreciate the effort.
I think this would be good for someone who trade multiple futures and wants to see all in one view.
If I could help each person design a workspace appropriate for him/her I have no issues with that.
@aslan thank you for your efforts as well explaining what you are looking for. Help A LOT!
You have helped me expand my horizons as I don't want to sound like another broker who pushes a platform for the sake of it. Sadly this is what what the industry sounds like.."me,me,me..."
Experience counts and traders need to be match with the right platform according to that.
Again, the time you took in answering this is much appreciated.
Matt
