How-to create a wiki article

Creating a wiki article is very easy to do. A wiki is designed so that everyone can collaborate, allowing multiple viewpoints to be shared and respected within a single subject.

Don't worry about someone else editing your wiki and ruining it, all wiki edits must be approved by a moderator and an exact point-in-time history is maintained for every article. The point of a wiki is joint collaboration, so you need to prepare yourself that someone else may make changes to your article, but they will likely be for the better.

[top]Step-by-step Video
A video has been created by Big Mike that provides a step-by-step walk-through of how to create a new wiki article.

[top]The Process
  • Step 1 is to decide what section of the Wiki your article should exist in. Click Wiki from the navbar menu, and then pick the most appropriate section.
  • Step 2 is to choose the best title for the new article. The title needs to be unique (does not already exist in the Wiki). The title is very important, it will serve as the keyword(s) that are autolinked to from posts throughout the forum.
  • Step 3 is to populate the article with new text and information describing the topic. A good place to start may be to find another wiki article with a similar structure and layout, and then edit that article and select/copy the body, so you can paste that into your new article. This way your new article has basic formatting and structure, and now you can focus on the content.
[top]Adding image(s) to your article
You can attach files to the article just like a normal post, and they will show up at the bottom of the article as a thumbnail which can be expanded. Or, a more advanced user can follow the directions at How-to attach images to a wiki article to make the images inline with your article.
[top]More information
If you aren't already familiar with the concept of a wiki, then the website Wikipedia will provide a great example.

Your new wiki article will be submitted into the moderation queue. Requests are usually approved within 1 day. It will take 3 days before the article will start autolinking in threads and posts.
