Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is an unregulated means of crowfunding via use of cryptocurrency, typical a means of source of capital for a new startup. The investor then receives a percentage of the newly created cryptocurrency rather than a percentage of ownership.
The gain for the investor must come from appreciation of the cryptocurrency if the project goes well.
