IPB 4 is up and running on the beta site. Unfortunately, I cannot begin migrating data from the current site to the new one because I just found out they've not released the migration tool yet (despite their website saying it is supported).
Waiting for their dev team to contact me with further info.
Migrating the data is really the first step before any of the real work can begin.
Now that IPB has "officially" made 4.0 gold, they are starting to go back and fill in some rough edges. They've basically said the first push was just to get the framework done (all new), and now they will go back and start adding features and streamlining the interface, performance, etc.
Unfortunately, there is still no upgrade path from vb 3.8 to IPB 4, despite a misleading page on their website. Their recommended path is vb 3.8 to ipb 3.0 then to ipb 4, and the problem is I will need to do this conversion countless times during the test process, so I really, really don't like their suggestion.
I've asked them again if they will give me a better time frame, it's been a month since I last asked, so here's hoping...
Well after pressing them for a time frame, they can give me none. Nothing. So to me that means they aren't even actively developing the converter yet, which means probably 3-4 months and not weeks or days.
I hope I am wrong. I am basically at a standstill until I get the converter.
I've ended up putting out a bid to their project providers for a custom conversion to get me going, and a budget of $5,000. Hopefully the talent exists to get the conversion going quickly, we'll see.
