I have disabled Visitor Messaging in user profiles. This has been constantly confused with Private Messages for the last 4-years and people seem to post some rather inappropriate things from time to time, not knowing it is public.
If you have a very compelling reason for why Visitor Messaging should be turned on, please reply.
This week I've spent every spare moment working on the new futures.io (formerly BMT) servers. Everything is going perfectly, and today I finally made it far enough to bring up a test copy of the forum on one of them.
Speed improvement is about 3x faster than the current site.
For those that care, the current server is an X3450 with 8GB on 2x500GB 7200rpm drives R1, and many of you have probably noticed that at certain times of day when load is high, it is very slow.
The new config is two E3-1275 V2's w/32GB each and 2x256GB Vertex4 SSD's R1, each. I am splitting the load of php, mysql, image hosting, mail, and webinars between the two servers. This config should last us many years to come.
I am waiting for a new vbulletin version that is fully compatible with php 5.4 (days away) and also plan to use this time to upgrade a few of the older more complex modules before shipping the servers to Chicago for co-lo.
My plan is to get this done by the end of May, because I've got almost 20 webinars scheduled in June and won't have time otherwise. Currently I don't see any problem with this.
Using one of the new servers as a testbed, I was able to confirm that vBSEO module upgraded much easier than I was anticipating. So we are now on the latest version on the production futures.io (formerly BMT) server.
This is mainly a maintenance thing, and you should not see any change. But please report any problems, as this affects a lot of core parts of the site.
The sorting option within the Download section is currently broken and appears to be a bug after the upgrade. I have a ticket open with the developer and will update once resolved.
