Aren't French Fries actually from Belgium?

I don't know, but it should have been the "Belgium Fries", as it's a religion in Belgium (and also in the north of France).

Yes,
Because Fries comes from the verb: 'to french' means you take a potato and you 'french' (slice?) the potato
so Americans tought that it was the country France but actually it's the english verb 'to french' a potato.

That's ok... after the attacks on Sept 11, the US Congress voted to call them Freedom fries...
