How do I get MedianRenko bars added to my ninjatrader platform?
There is a new type of Renko bar in the elite download section called BetterRenko.
Why create yet another Renko bar type? Because they are all broken and have issues backtesting. There are lots of flavors: Renko, SbsRenko, MedianRenko, WickedRenko. …
Move the attached ".cs" file to your: Documents/NinjaTrader/Bin/Custom/Type folder (as this is a BAR TYPE).
Then shutdown NinjaTrader.
Then restart Ninjatrader.
It should then show up in your DataSeries list along with Minute, Tick, Range, etc. (right click on any chart & pull down to DataSeries or hit CTRL+F).
After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!
Putting it in a .zip file & importing it, will cause Ninja to place the bar type into your INDICATOR folder. It is a bar type (like Minute, Range, Volume, Tick, etc.) It should be moved to the TYPE folder, not the INDICATOR folder.
Once you do that, you have to QUIT Ninja, Restart Ninja, then access it through your DATA SERIES drop-down menu. It will appear in the Data Series menu along with Tick, Range, Minute (and all the other bar types).

Yes, I tried that, but nothing appeared in the DataSeries drop down. What I did was rename the file to MedianRenkoBarsType.cs, zip it into a zip file named MedianRenkoBarsType.zip with the file .cs file in the \type directory, import it, restart NT, and it appeared in the data series list. Maybe I did something wrong using the other procedure. That was my process in case anyone else encounters the same issue.
It may be that you have another bar type in your type folder that is conflicting with MedianRenko. It could be one of the other "renko's" BetterRenko, SBSRenko, etc. If they are coded to use the same Custom type or Final type, that could be the problem. Ninja can't tell the difference between the two. It will probably work in the indicator file, but I haven't tried putting it there. Can't guarantee how it will perform or if there will be conflicts with the other bar types. I don't recommend using MedianRenko anymore, as Rjay's RenkoHybrid solved all the issues that were present in MedianRenko. You might check out Rjay's RenkoHybrid. I've been using it for 2 years and love it. It can be found here: Home

The file is imported into the \Type sub-directory. I was just playing with MedianRenko. I have RJay's RenkoHybrid, BetterRenko, and my own implementation of UniRenko from TimeTrade's Universal Renko idea, where the Open, Trend Close and Reversal Close of the bar are all user selectable.
