Hi,

I would like to have my time grid (X axis) on NT7 to be setup for example for 1 min (meaning a new vertical line every 1 min) but when I use a none time base chart (ticks chart, range bar, etc).

I know that the obvious solution is to change the setting Equidistant Bar Spacing to false but the charts are horrible in that case.

So I want to keep the Equidistant bar Spacing but I just want to have vertical line every X min (X should be a value that I can change as long as I have at least 1 bar every X)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Isn't that some sort of contradiction?

I have been trying to visualize what this would look like, and I really can't, without changing the bar spacing in some variable way -- sometimes you would have 1 bar every x minutes let's say, sometimes (as an extreme example) 4 or 5 bars every x minutes. How could the bar spacing not be unequal, if you want the time spacing to stay equal??? The bars are going to happen at whatever times they happen, which cannot be expected to be at even time intervals. (Otherwise they would be time bars.)

See if you can work up a diagram of how it would look. I can't see how it is even possible, myself.

I think there is a reason you have to give up equidistant bar spacing to fit non-time-based bars into an equally-spaced time-based grid....

Bob.

Edit: I just saw the screen shot you added. If I understand it, it looks like you would have time gradations of fixed numbers of minutes, but then the grid lines would not be equally distant. Is that what you meant?

On CQG I have something like that

Is a time shading for example in the chart below every 5 min. Each grey and black zone represent 5 min of time.

OK, got it. I misunderstood.

Don't know what can be done in NT for that, although I assume that an indicator could be written that would color the background in this way. Actually, that should not be too hard to do. (Not that I'm volunteering. )

Bob.

Update: I think the time labels on the x axis would have to stay non-equidistant, because that is, I believe, set by NT when you make your choice about the bar type. But the shading of the price chart would then look just like what you show for CQG: the time demarcations, shown by different color shadings, would be of different size visually, but they would each actually take up the same x minutes. Is this the idea?

Ok thanks so I need an indicator for that...

(PS shading are difficult to read I would prefer just a vertical line - but I am browsing the ninja forum and I can't find anything for the moment but I am sure I have seen that in other charts so maybe I will be lucky and find it again).

Yeah, I think a vertical line would be possible too.

Please check the Update I just added to my post above and let me know if I got it right -- substituting a line for a color shading.

You might want to search the free ninja indicator thread here:

For that matter, you might want to put a request in that thread. Some very good NT coders respond to requests there.

Also, @cory is very good at finding existing indicators, or coding them. He also hangs out on the free NT indicator thread and may be able to help (although now he will get a mention notice from this one. )

That is exactly the idea with a line instead of a shading (more easy to read).

Thanks

Hard to follow but if its a vertical line on a fixed interval? this is 90%

Simple indicator to draw vertical lines at time of day - [AUTOLINK]NinjaTrader[/AUTOLINK] Support Forum

A small code mod would be needed so it takes the interval from a time series and this MTF time setting made customisable + line thickness or shade etc. options.

There is another indi that is similar in ways MultiPeriodCandles.

Edit: I was writing this when Okina updated, yep just found timelines also.
