Do you really think golf, or "jogging", is "exercise"?

Thanks for sharing those articles. They were very interesting and confirmed my thoughts on exercising.
I'm definitely a fan of short interval, high intensity work outs and always have been. I don't get the logic behind long distance running for high conditioning as your body learns to adjust to this activity. I prefer fast paced running for short periods. I usually sprint up steep dirt hills to achieve that (I live near a canyon and run on fire roads which is perfect). Same goes with weight training. It seems that it's almost better to "shock" your muscles rather than do the usual routine by doing high intensity work outs. I guess my only vice is enjoying a few micro brews here and there but I'm willing to bet they aren't that bad for you in moderation of course .
We sound alike Private Banker. I've been DC training along with Myo weight training for a couple of years now.
I also enjoy sprinting and never got into long distance. Living in Oregon, we have 11 microbreweries within 10 minutes.
I used to play both football (no, it's not called soccer!) and hockey, so I've done both. An average midfielder (in the elite division) runs about 11 km in a game, but they also do quite a few sprints. I've never understood long distance running, I much prefer high intensity, and have been doing interval training "all" my life. I discovered the Tabata routine 6-7 years ago, and that is extremely effective.
I'm a bicycle nut (fast) like Zondor...never got into the running or jogging stuff.
Nobodys chiming in about golf which I am finding a bit curious, I golf about once every 10 years or so because it doesn't really appeal to me but I figured there would be a bunch of golfers around here...maybe I'm wrong.
Carry your bag and do some speed golf. Or, just do speed golf...haha.... It becomes a workout. Or do the Balboa (San Diego Municipal) course and carry your bag!
I prefer crossfit as it was similar to our military workouts with a group of people. I have been helping run a free group for about 20-50 people for about 3 years now. It is fun and challenging as you get to compete and you mix in heavy, light, sprints, etc..
Tabata is a bad-ass workout! One of my favorites and especially if you can do it with some heavier weights! It will leave you on the floor for a half-hour if you do it right.
Tell me about it! When I first started, I would curl up in the fetal position and would need hours just to foster enough strength to even take shower. It's pretty intense!
hahah... Identical to my story. That is funny. I would come home after somehow managing to pull myself together and lay on the floor and my wife would say, "are you going to bed like that" and I would be curled up on the floor not wanting to move.
The next day I would be so sore that I would feel toxic and then for some reason get excited about doing it all over again the next time... haha..
I think we will do the Tabata this week with the group just to commiserate. haha...
