Hi
I'm new to Overcharts and trading futures.
I went to place a bracket order today using the chart orders platform on Overcharts.
I was on the 15 min chart HG.
I had preset the bracket so the stop is 30 ticks from the entry and the target is 90 ticks from the entry.
I preset this so I can place the order directly on the chart then slightly modify after.
Also as I'm new to trading it allows me to place the order/lines directly on the zone so I can visually see the order in relation to the chart.
And I don't know how to use DOM.
So the plan:
Buy Entry 3.5995
Stop Sell 3.5775
Target 3.663
with the preset bracket I created
So I positioned the order where I wanted it on the chart above showing "buy" and below the "stop" but the order I got was the opposite.
Instead it turned into a sell order that grabbed the market price as the entry order which at the time was 3.6175
With a stop buy of 3.633 and target 3.6085
Then of course my internet died right as I executed the order and I had to call my broker to flatten the order.
Now admittedly I just had surgery 2 days ago on my arm and my hand is weak so I may have accidentally crossed from the buy blue verticle order bar to the red sell vertical order bar.
But I wanted to figure out exactly how I made such a stupid mistake so I don't replay it and why the order ended up at the market price.
The other question was I had the magnet tool engaged, could that affect where the order gets placed?
I contacted support and explained what happened so I could understand how I ended up with a sell entry at market price when I was no where near it and trying to place a buy order.
Although I physically placed the order at 3.5995 I also realize if I were selling it would likely have to be at or above the market price.
But I realized I also had the magnet tool on.
The support said it wasn't possible and they said overcharts doesn't have a magnet tool that allows you to attach rays or trend lines to candle points of highs and lows etc...but it does.
Sorry my lengthy question is:
I expect I may have accidentally move the mouse over to the sell portion when I executed the order, I understand that but my question is can the magnet tool influence where the order gets placed if it is engaged?
