Its support is legendarily cantankerous, but I've always had good experiences with it.

Best description of SC support.... ever.

Performance & reliability - no brainer
Value - why throw money away?
Scripting - I want some power here; needs to let you change charts to show whatever's part of your bet evaluation

And must work well in Linux. So SierraChart with irascible but technically capable support. Its differently structured to some of the other platforms I've tried but that's the nature of vendor lock in - if you put the effort in, it will soon seem natural.

I never thought of this but running in linux would solve 60% of my trading tech issues... ToS works well in linux (better than on windows) but when I checked years ago their comms were way too high.

The most important part of a charting package for me is that it has a 5 minute initial Balance indicator.

For me, some of the things i would like to see are a layer manager to hide or show my prefered widgets a la photoshop. I can imagine putting my indicators on a layer, my VWAP on another layer, MP on another etc. I'd like to have the possibility to remove things i don't need or use or will never use. I'd like to get rid of the many windows we see when comes the time to edit the properties related to any of its functionalities. There could be a simple drawer that would slide from the side of the chart that would present the properties related to the selected object and that would be it. Same window for every settings only the name of properties would change. That would be my ideal.

Bubba, as long as a charting package gives you good scripting then you can do a 5 ( 6, 7, 8 or whatever :-) ) initial balance indicator. Sierra has all the tools but if you don't want to pay for the advanced package and something isn't there you can usually write it for yourself.

Trendisyourfriend, yes, trading HSI it's my friend too. You can map indicators from one chart to another with Sierra Chart and also hide them when you wish. You can hide either indicators or charts (a hidden chart has close to zero processing load). I use Sierra menus and autokey like scripts to convert keypresses into sequences of instructions to do things like ... select my 5 second chart, unhide it, detach it, make it always on top and if it exists hide it (so that numpad / is a toggle on and off for a chart I don't normally want to see). Similarly I hide a VPOC indicator as its rarely of interest but I don't want to find it each time I need it.

This is a follow-up to what Kiwi suggested. Yes, my initial balance is dynamic and can be easily changed.
