Are you an introvert or an extrovert and does it affect your trading?
I have been always thinking I am an extravert, because I could keep finding new topics even to introvert people. However, I am super risk-aversion. I have been learning finance for almost 10 years but I feel that I am never ready to be a trader. For the case as me, maybe the only reasonable explanation would be outside world is a such a big distraction so that I could not even concentrate on really focusing on something...
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
interesting...never heard of the book.....
years ago I was an enfp...last year I became a infp....but middle "i"....I've always enjoyed the company of people
but sometimes its super nice to be alone....
either way, we were created to be in communion with others (were we really created to be alone?)
if you trade alone...then hire people to work for you if you're lonely....plus trading is only part of your day (God I hope you don't trade 12hrs a day...if so, please go out and have a life .....if you're social then go out and do lunches, dinners, and meet people....if you're introverted, goto a park or someplace quiet and rest up.....
Yes, people can change, but personality (including the introversion-extraversion dimension) is pretty stable after adolescence (see for example this paper).
So it's not a matter of being 'committed enough to success' and 'becoming what we need to be' (don't even know what that means), it's more a matter of finding a style that suits your personality, since a trading style is a lot easier to change than a personality profile.
I have to disagree with this. Once we pass adolescence,... where we are on the introvert-extrovert scale is unlikely to change. This is something deep within our core. It is built into our personality through and through.
If you're talking about faking it. Yes you can do that. Me being an introvert can go to a dinner party of 10 people I dont know and make conversation and fake my way through the evening. But I guarantee you that me and every other introvert would absolutely hate every minute of that evening and long to instead be at home or with close friends/family.
Faking it vs changing your core personality make up are two very different things.
However as has been mentioned, neither personality automatically means you will be a success at trading.
