I've been using Multicharts + Interactive Brokers for quite some time for fully automated short-term fx trading, and so far there was no problem with this bundle. But recently I've decided to look into futures trading, and developed a couple of promising systems which require relatively fast execution. I tried it with IB but of course with no success (partly due to the TWS's latency, partly due to the fact that IB transmits snapshots instead of ticks). So, I've registered demos at Mirus, Optimus and Velocity, and currently puzzled how to set up automated trading. I've successfully connected to their feeds, but I don't see what I should do to send orders to them. Anyone had experience with this?

Thanks, but I have just received a note from the broker that Zen-Fire cannot be used with demo accounts... and I am not ready to open a live one without testing everything properly. Maybe I want too much?

Please clarify, who is telling you what exactly?

Mike

Optimus Futures. Mirus. A guy from here: hft experience: Brokers, part 2, unfortunately he replied me in Russian, but the meaning of his comment is that Zen-Fire cannot be used with demo accounts. I'm puzzled. Any suggestions?

You can open up a real account and deposit the minimum amount and trade in SIM. Yes, it's more of a hassle to open a real account and yes you have to have some cash sitting there. But the data feed is real and they treat you like a real customer.

Some of these brokers delay or simulate their demo feed and don't support their demo accounts very well. I had a demo account with one broker (I don't remember who) and if it went down when the US Equities were open they just left it down until after hours. They didn't want their resources distracted from supporting their real feed and their paying clients.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew. As I can see now, no one is going to give me an account for sim trading — I mean, an account with a number, with trade logs, stats, etc. This way you don't have any possibility to test the execution speed of the particular broker, the stability of the platform and so on. Could anyone explain me what is this sort of demo intended for?

Hi.

I contacted Mirus recently to request a sim' account that I could use in Multicharts and their answer was that the functionality does not exist.

All the best...

Wow, that makes no sense. I guess Mirus only supports NinjaTrader anymore? Because MultiCharts works fine with Zen Fire, and both NT and MC don't care if it is a demo feed or live feed, it is all the same API. Or I have completely misunderstood.

I would say to contact Optimus or Velocity instead.

Mike
