I heard of this site while listening to a Mirus webinar and have really enjoyed going through all of the indicators that are available here. Great programming! Favorites so far include BetterVolume, PriceActionSwing/Trend, DoubleMAPaintHolyGrail, anaMACDBBLines, anaKeltnerUniversal and anaTriggerLines. Thanks to everyone involved for providing so many great ways to view the market!
I was a real estate developer for many years and got caught in this tremendous down cycle, still have a long way to go to stop the damage... I first got interested in trading after watching my stock holdings plummet in 2008. I was more amazed at the speed of the move than I was angry at the resulting loss. My experience in real estate had given years of stucying the pros and cons of leverage and exponential growth. Real estate was considered a "safer" but slower growing investment. Now that I have suffered through a swift and violent down cycle in property values, I realize that lack of liquidity has it's negatives. And that is why I have moved to becoming a trader.
I have roughly 2 1/2 years experience as of today, much of that "full time". I study nearly non-stop (ask my wife .
Trading is frustrating, confusing, manipulating at times, what I have found to be more a psychological battle within my self than with other traders. Learning that high percentage wins are not necessarily the key to success, that doubling down to make up losses is not the right strategy, that not only learning the markets but also yourself and how you view them, all have been harder lessons to learn than fib ratios and elliot waves. But, slowly, I am making the transformation from blowing up accounts (more than once) to smooth(ish) equity curves.
Thanks to all the contributors, this site feels like home already!
I chance upon this site today while browsing various online trading reviews and systems. The depth and tone of the site prompted me to join.
I have been 12 years out of the market and built a business in an unrelated field. That business is now merging with another giving me a lot of free time and some financial blue water under my keel.
I did not go to college or university joining the back office of a bank futures settlement department in London. I then worked on the floor of LIFFE initially as a broker/order clerk, and then as an order filler in the pits. I mostly traded the long end stuff, Gilts, the BTP and Bund. But also the Euromark and short sterling as required. They were good times, I spent the last 5 years as a pit based local in the Bunds.
When LIFFE went electronic I could not imagine life in a trading arcade and went to work on the Delta 1(interest rates) desk of a big American Bank where I had some good contacts. They were swallowed up by JPM and I was one of many who were shown the door.
A lot has changed since I made a living in the markets. Since 1999 my market focus has been on nurturing my savings/pension and having 4 or 5 fundamental conviction positions a year with `mad money`. I have been financially successful in those ventures - but they are hardly trading for a living. That`s the big question I am asking myself ....could I trade for a living again.....? I have a lot of reading to do and probably more than a few questions to ask.
I think, I am one of the 95% of Forex Traders which are looking for the holy grail. I realized one thing, it does exist, but not in any forum ore blog or whatever. The holy grail is YOU. Believe me, after searching almost every single webpage which includes the words System, Method, EA and so on (took me a couple of years) I came to the point that most important in trading is to only have a good method but more important is to be patient and don't show any emotions. Stick to the rules and don't give up. Please give me some feedback if you have any comments or suggestions.
Thanks Big Mike! Really appreciate the heart that goes into this. I'm a trading sponge, been trading for a year, on second account, but refuse to give up! I wake up every morning thankful that I have the freedom and access to trade. I'm looking forward to everyone's posts and eventually being helpful to others. Be blessed in your trading everyone!
This is a great community for traders. I've learned a lot by reading various posts. Getting an elite membership was the best $50 I've ever spent. If anyone is not an elite member yet, do you self a favor. Join!
In honor of our troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may continue to enjoy our freedoms, I will be donating all Elite Membership subscriptions received on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday …
I can join in with the blown accounts team here... even though I started slowly with stocks and options, I did blow my futures account... thought I had everything under control... even though I studied alot of theory prior.... but finally have come to a different stage here now!
Great initiative Mike to this forum!
Wish all good luck on their personal journey, cause that's what it's about, finding your own way. Like everything in life, trading is no difference, even though many people believe that you can adopt any 'system' out there.
