Shame they had that fire in their garage just after taking the win! Glad no one was seriously injured.
I was incredibly disappointed with McLaren, yet again. I don't understand how a team with so much success in their history can make such monumental mistakes, like messing up tire changes and not putting enough fuel in the car.
Mark Webber, , takes the victory for Red Bull in round 6
As projected pre-race by
David Hobbscap,
this makes the sixth different driver to win a Grand Prix in the first six races of the 2012 season.
With this Red Bull win, they become the only team with two wins in 2012.
I believe the INDIANAPOLIS 500 deserves mention this weekend.
Congratulation, Dario Franchitti wins his third Indianapolis 500 during the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500.
There was one incident during the race I want to comment on. It was the pit stop of the A.J. Foyt car driven by Mike Conway. Conway slid into his pit box and nearly hit the pit wall scattering crew members. The "hefty" fuel man was hit and tumbled across the nose of the car and fell full force on the right front wing, collapsing the wing to the ground. A.J. decides to send the car out without replacing the wing, at pit exit, at these speeds, the dragging wing causes Conway to lose control resulting in a crash taking out the Izod IndyCar Series points leader Will Power.
I was surprised Roger Penske wasn't interviewed for comment, I'm sure this event will unfold in greater detail in the future.
INDIANAPOLIS (USA TODAY) — Izod IndyCar Series points leader Will Power was taken out of the 96th Indianapolis 500 on Sunday when Mike Conway's car spun in front of his on lap 80.
Conway's No. 14 Foyt Racing Dallara/Honda slid into the wall on the exit in front of Power's No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet. Conway had been struggling after exiting from a bad pit stop.
"That's what started it," said A.J. Foyt, Conway's team owner. "He slid in and hit my fuel man and knocked him over, and that's what broke the front wing. We had a helluva run going.
"To win this Indy 500, everything's got to fall your way. One little thing goes wrong like that, it's bad."
Sending out a 200 mph racing car with a broken front wing is like giving a loaded shot gun to a monkey. I've had no respect for A.J. Foyt since this incident in 1997, today reminded me of that!
Fernando Alonso , takes the victory for Ferrari in round 8
Fernando becomes the first driver to win two races in the 2012 season.
This win puts Fernando Alonso in the #1 position in the Drivers Championship, ahead of Mark Webber in the #2 slot by 10 points. Ferrari is still struggling in the Constructors Championship and sits in the #4 position.
Seven races and seven different drivers taking wins at the start of a Formula One season that's a record that will probably stand for a long time.
I'm sure having 6 World Champions in the field helps too.
FWIW, I screwed up the round count on my posts, I was away in the month of April and failed to post the Chinese and Bahrain GPs. Forgive me fellow Gearheads.
Mark Webber , takes the victory for Red Bull in round 9
This is Mark's second win in the 2012 season.
Scuderia Ferrari
Wins the Grand Prix of Deutschland
Fernando Alonso , takes the victory for Ferrari in round 10
This is Fernando's third win in the 2012 season.
McLaren Mercedes
Wins the Hungarian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton , takes the victory for McLaren in round 11
This is Lewis's second win in the 2012 season.
Fernando holds a 40 point lead in the 2012 Championship over Mark Webber and Mark is but 2 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel in third. The season continues with the Belgian Grand Prix on September 2, 2012. That's a long time to wait to see what happens at turn one on the opening lap at that track, it has a history.
While updating this thread, I was informed I exceeded the limit of 16 images (smile), so I removed the "clapping hands" after the line that states the drivers second and third win. I guess a man must know his limitations (smile).
See you in September, Anyone planning to go to Austin in November, you can bet the Brazilians will be there in force, they love their Formula One, Bruno Senna and Felipe Massa. And they know how to PARTY.
Nelson Piquet Souto Maior (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈnɛwsõ piˈke], born August 17, 1952), known as Nelson Piquet, is a Brazilian former racing driver. He was Formula One world champion in 1981, 1983 and 1987. He is one of eight drivers to win three or more world championships, the others being Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Ayrton Senna (3 each), Alain Prost (4), Juan Manuel Fangio (5), and Michael Schumacher (7). In 1983, he became the only driver to win the F1 championship in a BMW engined car.
Jenson Button , takes the victory for McLaren Mercedes in round 12
This forth win for McLaren Mercedes puts Jenson sixth in the 2012 Driver's Championship, 16 points behind Lewis Hamilton his team mate who now sits in fifth place. Fernando Alonso remains first in the championship just 24 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel in second.
Oh, by the way. Did you see the action in turn one, lap one, very sad. The history of this turn lives on.
Grosjean, Alonso, Hamilton and Perez were all eliminated from the race, Kobayashi managed to continue, Romain Grosjean has been given a one-race ban.
