I could really get along with Q Trader, if only it had the ability to show price volume profiles. Without this capability, it simply is not an option for my trading needs.
Have now started using Multicharts.net SE and really like it. Meets pretty much all my needs for now (so does Sierrachart, but personally, I just find MC a little more aesthetically appealing). And as long as I am mostlly trading no more than one or two instruments, the SE version will do for now. I have noted that with the CQG feed there are the occasional disconnections in MC and I am not happy about that. May try the Rithmic feed instead or even look at a hosted option.
But I will continue to look and see how Q Trader will evolve. Maybe they will kindly add price volume profiles sometime in the not so distant future?
I started to use CQG Qtrader today and I think it is perfect. I was also testing Xtrader Pro and what I really liked about Xtrader pro DOM was that I was able to see after placing an order the queue (estimated position in queue EPIQ). I could see how many orders were in front of me. Is there anything like that with CQG Qtrader? Can I see on the CQG ladder the queue?
I use Qtrader and have to say it's good value for the price. The DOM is quick and responsive and isn't phased by busy periods such as the open or news events. The only thing that bugs me is the fact that only one chart is viewable at one time, although I only use 15min charts for key levels with no indicators up, I do trade around ten products so constantly changing symbols is a major pain. For this reason I also use NT for extra charts although it isn't as good.
CQG QTrader is just $40/month + $.25/filled contract with a $595 monthly cap. If you are a high volume trader than i can recommend CQG IC which is around the same price ($595 per month). The charting is great and if you don't need million indicators than this will do its job. With Qtrader you can have up to 4 tabs in your chart, so basically you can have "4 charts" at your hand. I was trading with NT7 and rithmic data feed, but it was lagging and not so great for a quick scalping. With CQG it's different story Xtrader PRO is great too, but too expensive for me right now.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I do agree that CQG Q Trader is a good platform.
Just a small question, When you traded via NinjaTrader/Rithmic did you ask to reroute your orders via the European servers? Just wanted to know because it could have made a difference. I dont want to deviate from the CQG Q Trader topic, so a simple yes/no would suffice.

no, I didn't. My style is order flow and I use only DOM. That's why I choose CQG. Their DOm is 100x better then NT. NT is great for charting. Both of the platforms have pros and cons. It depends on the trader.
According to the website, with CQG IC you have to pay an additional $250 a month to trade through it. Fine for those whose volume justifies it but not for me right now.
With regard to the charts, I understand the tabs but still, you are limited to four and you can't view them all at once. So if you are watching for key levels for multiple products you are constantly typing symbols and the time frames you want. I guess they are giving people a reason to upgrade to CQG IC but multiple charts on a few screens is a very basic set up and I'm surprised it's not available.
you can customise pages, and you can toggle by creating a button for your particular markets you are watching("customise toolbar"), so you might have a bonds page, Stox, Oil, etc european, USA, Asia, then you hit the button.
Very simple to setup, ring CQG or the help button?
