I bought a used one last week on ebay for 140euros delivery included.
4 new monitors maybe are a bit out of my range at the moment.
The active adapters are around 30euros each and would be more affordable for me (if only they worked).
I asked a clarification to Nvidia support service about their first answer.
Let see what they will say.
Anyway I start to have some doubts about the possibility taht it works with active adapters DP to VGA because they are not mentioned in the technical specifications.
thanks

Shout out for DVI
While Display Port is common on GPUs designed for business applications (eg NVIDIA Quadro & NVS), Gaming cards (eg NVIDIA GeForce) still tend to have more DVI ports than Display Port.
my system:
3 x Samsung S27C450 monitors (3x1 in portrait)
PC with a ASUS P8H77 motherboard that can support up to 2 PCie 3/2 x 16 slots, i7 processor with HD4000 Intel graphics
Sapphire Radeon 6450 video card supports 2 monitors (DVI and VGA ports)
I had previously Windows 7 x64 running and could run all 3 monitors (2 on video card and 1 on HD4000). no problems.
then "upgraded" to Windows 8,1 (big mistake). OS does not support previous video configuration. Time Out errors. I checked all forums and Windows Support without a solution.
So I want to take the path of least resistance and get an additional Video Card.
My current idea is to simply buy a Nividia Quadro NVS295 and a pair of DVI-Display Port adaptors on amazon so I can drive one monitor on the 6450 and two monitors on the NVS295.
Question:
Is this a robust solution? or should I get two NVS295s so I'm running all one type of video cards?
Nice. My main desktop has just 1 fan and uses Intel integrated graphics; draws 5.1W (idle) to 32.0W (100% CPU) excluding monitors; it seems about the same as what you have. I have a few older workstations that use the HD 6450 but nowadays the integrated Intel HD graphics provides better performance.
The only major upgrade I've moved towards is using a PCIe SSD for boot drive and would recommend it for anyone.
I would certainly try picking up a couple of the GT 720s for a >3 monitor setup.
Yes, I have replaced the boot drive as well with a Samsung SSD. I do not like vertical monitors and therefore would only go for hoizontal screens. The only configurations that make sense to me are 3 or 6 monitors. Everything else cannot be set up correctly. I would use 1 graphics adpater per 3 monitors. You can buy them around $ 100 the piece (I bought my adapter for € 90).
I use a 4 PCIe mother board and 4 fanless graphics cards (AMD HD 5450 1GB - DVI / VGA / HDMI) with 8 monitors (Samsung 4/3 DVI / VGA) and it works like a charm.
Note that I come from the Matrox world and since I discovered multi PCIe in 2005, Matrox is totally useless ...
If you only have 2 or 3 PCIe the AMD Fire PRO 4100 2GB with 4 mini-display port is imho a nice choice - if you have mini-display port on your monitors of course. This GC is a PRO version, has a fan so some noise possible but each one can be used for 4 monitors. Anyway, I prefer a fanless 1 slot GC AMD or NVIDIA ...
Just like Fat Tails, I don't like vertical monitors because electrons move from left to right in landscape witch is not too bad for our eyes ... this is not the case for monitors in vertical mode ... this is not good for eyes even if you use special glasses (Gunar) especially if you trade all day long ...
I use two different SSDs, one for the OS (Samsung 830) and the other SSD for trading (Samsung 850PRO).
I use a regular HDD for backups with Acronis.
I still use my HDD raptor which was initially dedicated for trading in a hot swap in case of my trading's SSD fails (or OS SSD) fails ...
I always built my PC and I like that even if I'm not an IT man ... ;-)
