I had an issue on NT8 and they said they can't respond directly yet because it is in beta and I had to post the problem on the forum. This is too much of a lag time to resolve problems if you are trading so I went back to NT7.
That is true of any support job (or any job for that matter), you will always find the majority of people doing - or trying to do - a decent job, and then at one end you'll have the ones coasting and at the other those making a difference.
It feels like NT8 has been in Beta for a really long time... do you (or anyone else for that matter) know about the major improvements over NT7 that NT8 is meant to have?
There is a thread with all the improvements and there were several webinars talking about the improvements
I agree with you, it has been a long long process to get version 8 where it is.
Two major improvements that i am keen on are :
- better multi-threading
- tick handling
In any case I'm a big fan of the product, there's nothing better out there in terms of customization. I just really wish they would hire someone that implemented a different way to handle issues as they rely too much on users reporting bugs.
Even the $5 apps you buy generate a crash report when they crash, or generate extensive logs that you can just sent to the developer. With NT there's no such thing; you have to explain to them exactly what sequence of steps you did so that they can replicate they bug, and if they can't replicate... well... good luck.
I tried to show that to them many times but I got a message from the VP of Customer Service, perhaps I was being too assertive, so I decided to stop. Maybe if other customers pushed a little for better quality they would catch up on software standards for 2016.
Sometimes it is important to know what is happening/what you are do.
It stays software and out of the box optimization is difficult
I once created a tool for myself that does back testing, and it was 20.000X faster
because i was able to optimize it... to serve a very specific need
Provide a extremely specific solution that a generic platform will never be able to do
There is middle ground
Generic product versus Specific development...
