I'm interested to know how people set up their platforms for charting ZB sessions. My platform (SierraChart) allows me to have two sessions per chart - RTH and the evening.
For calculation of pivot points, etc., are people generally using the full 24 hour trading period on ZB or calculating from the RTH?
I currently track the RTH, the Bund-specific hours and their effect until RTH (so 0100-0720 CT) and overnight (close of RTH 1400-0100 Bund open).
I'm interested to understand the approach of others and the session hours used for daily indicator calculation.
Cheers
BD.

...what's also confusing me is the pit close at 1400CT for settlement vs CME's statement of Globex hours as 1700-1600. A 'sessions for (ZB) dummies' would be appreciated
'Pitclose' you'll see a volume spike for those trying to get a certain mark for settlement or use the last burst of volume to get out of the market for the day. However 'pit close' time is before equities close, so you'll still see decent volume trading into the close of the equity.
Here is a chart that shows the 20 day average volume per 60 minute bar for ZN.
The light grey band shows the trading hours from 7.20 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
As is clearly visible, volume picks up around 7.20, dies down after 2.00 and slowly comes back when Eurex opens at 1 a.m.
The picture looks the same for ZB.
So in short, if I used pivot points, I would use 7.20 to 2.00.
The big fish definitely make their moves early in the trading session. However, there's still decent liquidity available 24/7. So I personally haven't found a need to exclude movement during low activity times like I might on other instruments like ES. I chart the whole session. However, the indicators I use are mostly based on volume like VWAP so charting the whole session doesn't really change my levels anyways.
