I would be curious to gain some insight on how to trade the instrument. I have been looking at it given the night hours are more convenient for me when it comes to trading, specially around the first session. I am interested on trading it "mid term" with 20-30 minutes bars with IBKR and using HKD, so I dont mind holding overnight or even for multiple days but I am not quite sure as to the best way.
What I am trying to figure out is:
- Who are you trading HSI with?
- Who are you getting your historial data from?
- What hours do you trade it? Do you focus on the first or second trading session?
- What timeframe are you trading?
- Do you carry your position overnight?
- Are you trading the futures or the options?
- Do you convert to HKD and keep it on HKD? I assume you trade it regularly..
- How do you edge the HKD vs USD fluctuations?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I am not trading HSI futures (it is bad time to trade, if you are located in Europe).
- You can trade HSI futures through Interactive Brokers.
- Interactive Brokers offers historical and real-time data (no tick data though).
- The principal does not need to be hedged, if it is a futures contract, in this case you only need to hedge the P&L.
- During the last three years the USD remained in a corridor between 7.746 and 7.817 HKD, that is a fluctuation of less than 1%, as it is pegged to the USD.
I recently discovered historical HKEX tick data on their site. It’s csv format and can be downloaded daily with up to five years total. I’m currently getting live data and execution through Macquarie Futures and CQG, but no historical.
Here is the link, I haven’t had time to try the sample data yet. Please let me know if anyone is successful with this in nt8.
can you get tick data from Macquarie Futures?? coz i'm currently using IB with ninjatrader and IB does not provide tick data, which means order flow trading is of no use =.=
https://interactivebrokers.github.io/tws-api/top_data.html
Beginning in TWS v969 and API v973.04, tick-by-tick data. In TWS, tick-by-tick data is available in the Time & Sales Window. From the API, this corresponds to the function IBApi.EClient.reqTickByTickData. The maximum number of simultaneous tick-by-tick subscriptions allowed for a user is determined by the same formula used to calculate maximum number of market depth subscriptions Limitations.
Real time tick-by-tick data is currently not available for options. Historical tick-by-tick data is available.
and NT8 version 8.0.16.3 is (Updated required version of Traders Workstation for Interactive Brokers to 973 and added the ability to enable additional functionality that is in beta tick-by tick) for IBKR
thanks for the info mate, unfortunately I will need real time tick by tick data for order flow trading, guess I need to find somewhere else. I have tried to ask the local firms too and they don't provide it either, very frsutrating
