Hi Bob,

If you get this message, you are all good.

The scenario you describe doesn't apply here, because it's only if it's a user initiated action of saying we are spam.

Either way, if we end up in spam, the email address isn't working and user needs to take action on way or another if they are active.

In most cases, they don't want the emails anymore, they just don't bother to click unsubscribe.

I don't want anything that is bad for NexusFi's reputation, so I guess this is a good thing, but here's a big concern I have: I have never, in my entire online life, marked any site's message as spam. But Gmail often does it for me, based on criteria that I don't really know anything about. (They say it's because the email is similar to other spam messages they have seen in the past.)

Because of this, I frequently look to see if I have anything new in my spam folder, and decide if it looks like spam to me or not. Usually I agree with Gmail -- it looks like an obvious sales come-on from some site I have never heard of, etc. -- but sometimes, in fact it may happen a few times a month, Gmail seems to have just spotted some text that it didn't like in the header and that was enough to call it spam. Sometimes it's from a site I want to continue to get email from. All of those I'll return to my inbox and then delete them from there if I don't want them, so they won't reflect on the site's reputation (unless they do it a lot and they piss me off.)

My point is that being counted as spam is not necessarily something the actual user did. If by chance NexusFi sends out an email that Gmail doesn't like, I think this change will wipe out my subscriptions, which are many, and not because of any action I took.

Is this a realistic concern? It seems to me that it would be.

Bob.

So what's the recommended approach? To use attachments then?

You can use the built-in NexusFi method, which is "attachments" yes. Just click the paperclip and attach.

If you prefer the "style" or approach to bmcharts, you can use a third-party service use as imgur.com -- its quite similar (but much better) than bmcharts. Then just paste the IMG bbcode into the post, like you used to with bmcharts.

Then, NexusFi will cache a local copy of that image to our server, and serve it from here. We do this for all third-party links, so that if they are deleted or moved or otherwise unreachable a month, a year, a decade from now -- we still serve it from our cache. This is a huge advantage our site has, it prevents broken images and links.

Mike

Hi guys,

Today we've implemented an update to our unsubscribe system.

Prior to today, we relied primarily on people clicking our "unsubscribe" link within our emails to unsubscribe people from future emails.

We've also been using the List-Unsubscribe mail headers for a while, which is primarily implemented by Gmail.

But today, we've also added support for a callback action from Mandrill, our premium email delivery service, so that when a user marks us as spam -- without using our links, we will still automatically remove them from all future emails.

We're tracking this in our database and will display a message to users in the future, letting them know they aren't receiving our emails and why -- and presenting them with choices to resolve the issue. I haven't had a chance to implement this part just yet, and likely won't be able to prior to my big trip to the States, but it is a step forward nonetheless.

We treat spam very seriously, that's why we've done this. We are taking aggressive action when someone marks us as spam, to be sure we don't bother them again - by deleting all their thread subscriptions, and removing them from all notifications and event emails.

As always, please report any problem. This is a rather substantial backend framework change, so I want to be certain of it's correct performance.

Mike

Following-up:

I did finish completing the notification portion of the project. The user will receive a Private Message in our system when there is trouble with their email account.

It is not unusual to see some folks on NexusFi referring to posts by their post number in the thread, as opposed to just posting a link.

Example: "Check out post #8546"

Is there a way to go directly to a post number referenced this way, does anyone know?

I looked around in the How-to section and searched for "post" but found nothing.

If it is at mindnight central time, then that is when the server resets. Usually off for a few mins at that time.

It says I am registered for it (when I click the link in the invite email), but no confirmation email or link yet - may have to catch the replay on this one. Just mentioning it in case I am not the only one. Had no problem with the webinar I attended last week.

Same here. No link.

I still havent received the link and it is 5 minutes away.

Apologies that this occurred. The issue has been identified and corrected so it shouldn't happen again.

The recording is posted https://nexusfi.com/webinars/#registernow

Mike

Above is from the Stage 5 CME E-Micro webinar event thread, but I wanted to record it here in the changelog. The bug that prevented people from receiving a link was due to the incredible popularity of this event and the one prior to it, similar topic covered by FT71. That event in particular was wildly popular, and what happened was we used up our entire monthly quota of registration management (a third party system we use) and then mid-registration for the Stage 5 event, we had nothing left -- and the stupid billing system didn't think about simply charging us extra, instead it denied the requests and turned off our bot.

Anyway, problem solved now and shouldn't happen again regardless of popularity of event.
