I have almost zero experience about trading. I want to utilize Tradestation for backtesting with some ideas in my mind before wasting real money. I signed up Tradestation account and funded it. However, I could not get the desktop app installed. It would stuck on the small popup screen of It will take few minutes and please be patient." I called their technical support for a couple of time and spent hours trying different things including:
- Reinstall fresh Windows 10
- Disable firewalls
- Disable popup blockers
- Delete temporary files in various places
- Windows repair (although it is a fresh install)
- Hard disk check (using Windows tool)
- And other things I can't recall
My laptop is over 5 years old with the configuration as in below. I did not have issues with other apps although it is not fast.
I will call them again but am suspicious about their capability with not much hope. Buy a new computer can be an option but I want to make sure the issue is on the old laptop. When searching internet I found this forum and realized many experienced TS users in here. I wonder if anybody had similar issue when installing the platform and how it was sorted. Thank you for any advise!
Jay
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I am a long time user (though I have stuck with TS 9.5 as my preference over TS 10) but if I have any problems (not many over 20+ years) I ask on the TradeStation Forum.
Someone might know here but that is a better bet.
Also you can try live help from them directly by logging into Client Center.
Thanks SunTrader and kevinkdog for your kind replies. I searched internet for "Can't install program windows 10" and was luck, only needed to open Windows Defender Security Center, uncheck "Check apps and files".
I spent 3 hours with TS support and reboot the computer over 10 times
Good practical suggestion - TS 9.5 has a noticeably lighter footprint on older hardware.
For JayWhite, a few things worth trying before downgrading or buying new hardware:
Windows Defender "Check apps and files" - This is a known culprit for the "please be patient" hang during the TradeStation Windows download. Go to Windows Defender Security Center and temporarily disable "Check apps and files" before running the installer. This single setting has resolved the stuck installer for other TS users - frustratingly simple after hours of troubleshooting.
Run as Administrator - Right-click the TradeStation desktop installer and choose "Run as administrator." The platform requires elevated privileges and silently fails without them.
Clear running processes - Check Task Manager for any leftover TS processes before reinstalling.
Your hardware (i7-6500U, 8GB RAM, SSD) should handle TS 9.5 without issue. Version 10 is heavier on resources, so if the Windows Defender fix does not resolve it, the legacy 9.5 route kevinkdog mentioned is a solid fallback.
Hopefully saves you from needing a new machine.
