Time, the most valuable resource we have, its the one we can never get back. I remember the guys building the GNI platform back when, "nah I'm good I said", more fool me lol! thats the real game I guess.
Like @DanDaMan, I have a great liking for an NT competitor, Sierra Chart. But let me warn you in advance, be prepared for a very steep learning curve (nearly vertical) and a very technical orientation by the support staff (who don't mind insulting users who send them questions that they view as not worthy of them.) They will almost instantly get on and fix an issue that they perceive as important, but you had better be able to talk their language.
So it may be an option for you, but nothing is a completely unmixed blessing, and you take the good with the bad. In the end, there is nothing that is perfect, and you just assess how something works for you, at the time that you need it.
In this particular situation, I have not used NT8 for some time, and so I did not directly experience the issues that others have had. I also can understand how the sudden changes, which apparently were sprung on users without much preparation, caused a lot of upset. When you suddenly don't know how to use your platform, that can be upsetting, and understandably so.
So it is understandable that this thread has basically been mostly about complaints from users who did not know what was going on. And besides that, there have been things that did not work, or that may not have been thought through completely, as there always are. So now there is a process of feedback to NT from their users that will end up getting these issues fixed.
We have seen @NinjaTrader, the founder of the company, come in frequently and either explain things, or take information from users about their issues, or come back with fixes, and this will continue. This is actually an extraordinary level of involvement. The final form of NT 8.1x may or may not satisfy everyone, but they deserve some patience, and some help, while they work it into the final shape. Yes, a person can be unhappy that they put out something that is not perfect, but nothing is. We have had the founder of the company taking complaints directly, which is something to value, whether a trader decides in the end to go with NT 8.1x or not.
I started this post to try to respond to the intense negativity in this thread, all the while understanding why traders would be pissed about having to suddenly deal with something new and unexpected, and not entirely perfect. I'm suggesting we give NT a break, essentially, and let them find out what needs to be done to make it better.
One last thing: I will dispute the suggestion that anyone connected with this forum is "plugging" NT. This forum is about getting to the value, and the truth, of something by exposing it to the back and forth of discussion by traders who have possibly different points of view and a common interest in getting things right. I have been, to be honest, not always complimentary about NT at all times and in every respect. But it is a good platform that I have been satisfied with overall, and found it so over a number of years. I didn't say a "perfect" one, but a good one, for me. If it's not for you, that's totally fine -- go with something that is better, for you.
In the meantime, I hope that the problems and bug reports continue to come in, so NT can work to make this a better release. And that members will give Ray a little slack and assume that NT wants to provide a better product, and help them to do so.

Appreciate the question. As a percentage, about 4% of our user base is on NT7, the rest on NT8. We have not spent much if any time at all on NT7 development. I don't think removing support for NT7 would have a material impact to our customer support services.

I think it's human nature to invest the time to bitch and moan about the things we get upset over.
Unfortunately, also human nature to rarely take the same amount of time to invest in complimenting something or someone's experience.
I enjoy psychology (it was a turning point in my own trading), so I put at the forefront these types of things and find them useful in trading. Herd psychology for instance, look at SVB (that's another thread).
It's great that NinjaTrader Ray has hard numbers to reference and is willing to openly share here.
