That's a big "S." A recent NOVA program explored the possibility of existence of multiple universes (billions and billions of them) based on several theories including dark energy, universal expansion, etc.(sorry, Divergence Pro was not included). In those universes there are exact clones of our planet, every person, object, system, etc. Now, if one knows what is happening or happened in a clone market in another universe, he has found the Holy Grail.
The only thing that was not clear was whether a trader on Earth will be a surgeon, bus driver, a rabbi, or what in that clone Earth.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
For 30 days, stand on your roof at night and wave a bedsheet at Mars, Venus or Jupiter. Ignore the odd looks your neighbors give you. The sheet color is not important but I prefer pink. Five or ten minutes should do it. Then watch your chosen planet. It will either rise or fall in the night sky. If it rises, go long in the market...if it falls, go short. At or before sun up, your planet will always disappear. So will your trading account. It has never failed.
Ok, I'm kidding. Do not try this at home. Since my astrology belief system is so severly impared, I'll just have to keep trading the old fashioned way using logic and common sense...but if Jupiter ever passes between Earth and the Moon, I'm going short!!
The theory of multiple, or parallel, universes is an interesting intellectual exercise. According to the theory stated above, billions (if not trillions) of random events would have to occur... from the formation of "Earth" to the moon and planets, to the evolution of life itself precicely as they did here on our planet. Humans would have absolutely no free will in choosing anything including our mates going back to earliest man...or else there could not have been a "you". All events in the history of man would have been preordained? If one guy chokes on a taco and dies slightly out of sequence, then millions of people in the future would never get to exist as they do here. Man would have been forced to invent busses and the Jewish religion? But, now miraculously man is given free will to choose his career?
If we accept the hypothisis of multiple universes, I suspect that any life forms existing on them would vastly differ from that which we find here. If one thing is left to happenstance, then all things must be... including the evolution (and inevitable extinctions) of various species of life. Each universe would be uniquely different.
If we try to imagine life on a parallel universe, don't count on anything being even remotely familiar. If there is a "you", it might take a day just to count your eyes and legs. If any are traders, I doubt they ever heard of the S&P. But, I could be wrong.
I don't know how you can say that, Fat Tails. Bills charts are proof positive what you should have done (in hindsight). There are a number of traders who have this incredible talent.
Next you will be telling me that the earth isn't flat...thus, messing up my theory of having a single time zone.
My scanner doesn't work so I can't post a copy of the article.
My intuitive feeling about Bill's stuff (in line with yours but not so strident) is that his method probably doesn't work.
However, given the large number of MP adherants there are (and that they ingore a basic assumption required for MP) I thought I would post a readily available article.
He selects 8 stocks screened from 2,000. They are expected to perform better than their industry (ie if its airline then better than airline industry). The start of the outperformance period is 11 Dec and going to 11 Jun.
So all of this is well in advance.
If if they all out-perform their industry during that period it doesn't prove his method but the statiscal odds of it happening are very low.
Anyone here on the board who wants to, can post their choice of 8 US stocks so we can see your method outperform his over the same period.
.. I case you can't tell I am challenging all you Big Talkers and Small Walkers!
Closed minds are as useful as a closed parachute - imo. I was going to screen with price charts because those who have already proven themselves successful using astrology as a tool combined it with charting. (However, my chart would only be good for a short period.)
Thank you for your relaxed reply. I do not trade stocks, so I cannot take the challenge!
Let us not say that others are closed minds, if they have a different opinion on astrology. This reminds me the attitude of communists who treated everybody as ignorant, if she/he was unwilling to engage in a discussion on (Marxist) dialecticical materialism. This was just another pseudo-science, which did not make it into the 21st century.
Let us agree that we have different opinions, it is probably a question of different beliefs.
Darn, I missed that trade. I also missed a great op to go short early on the 8th and long that night. Of course, the full moon occured on the 10th. Do we always wait 2 and a half days before going long with the big bucks? Are we trading the full moons here? I'm pretty excited. LOL
Seriously, does this system tell you which of the 14,000 stocks to trade?
NVS $55.06......Closed at 54.35....now at 54.04
HUM $86.49.....Closed at 86.21....now at 84.54
NDZ $9.02........Closed at 8.92....now at 8.44
PTR $121.95.....Closed at 120.33....now at 117.77
AIZ $39.41.......Closed at 39.00....now at 39.07
MRVL $14.13....Closed at 14.04....now at 13.49
KMB $69.96......Closed at 69.71....now at 68.27
UBS $12.08.....Closed at 11.98.....now at 11.52
The only way to make any money here is to hang on for dear life and pray or be an idiot and short the stock market. Not one winner so far. This is why I never trade equities.
