Everyone is different. It will depend on your edge and what your accustom to looking for in a platform. If your still unsure and don’t have an edge I highly recommend to start live sim trading and get a feel for the platform you’re looking for before spending any money to trade for a prop firm. If not you will be stuck in the evaluation period spending on resets over and over which will result spending more money that could’ve been saved in a live brokerage account.
IMO Sierra Charts is by far the best platform to start if you’re on a budget. It’s customizable, less memory intensive, powerful and as close to relating to institutional trading. Downside is their support especially their requirement that you should be on their data feed Denali above everyone else. I’ve had my issues with SC and looked into other platforms only to come back to it. I believe the pain with support was not enough to justify learning a whole new platform. That said I’ve been able to use Rithmic Data during my evaluation without issues. You need to make sure that you are always using the updated version of SC.
SC won't work with Rithmic, and its more than I want to pay now anyway. I would go with NT8 instead since I used it during the mini-gauntlet. I just didn't realize I needed to bring my own license once I passed.
I passed using SC/Rithmic feed then changed over to Denali. SC $25/month is more than NT8? Are you looking for a platform at no cost or free? GL with that.
What I meant about NT8 vs SC is that in addition to the monetary cost the time I spent learning the platform - it did not make sense to me in the medium term to start paying for a new platform that will entail additional time spent learning it.
I am going to use overcharts with the 60 day free trial.
I don't have a ton of experience with different platforms but so far Overcharts seems very solid. It is missing a few basic native indicators but has every type of chart I know of. Volume and TPO profile are also very nice. I have not been able to find much in terms of community built indicators. I don't do much coding but I could probably create any missing indicators I need. The 60 day free trial is very generous and definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in volume profile.
