1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?
1.5 year
2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?
Strategy Analyzer, NinjaScript
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?
C#, Genetic optimizer, External library Reference, Historical Manager, Key shortcuts
4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
Simulation, going to live trade
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?
Algorithmic
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?
NT is pretty easy to use and intuitive for me, so hardest think was to start, anything else is just F1 or Google search. I like object design of NinjaScript classes.
7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
They assist you and answers you questions, but I feel like they don't listen the customers wishes. Looks like workaround problems is more present result than doing fixes or features for that.
8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?
FREE license is the smartest thing they can provide, so I can use it for how long time I need to, learn and get knowledge and when I decide to go live, I just pay. Just wonder why anybody other is not having it same way. Price for lifetime license is adequate.
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?
Experienced
9 years. 2003, before it even had a charting package.
2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?
I have been able to get all my ideas programmed into ninja at a reasonable cost.
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?
Kinetick data. The simulator for testing. Just about every idea out there has been programmed for ninja.
4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
Simulation
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?
Discretionary. I can turn a fair trading idea into a very good one by changing the bar types, ie renko, range, better renko.
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?
Easy. I've grown with it.
7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
Excellent. But I never need to use it now.
8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?
I bought TradeStation for $8000. I rented FutureSource for $500 a month. I had X- Trader for $750 a month. I had E-Signal, Reuters. Ninja is the best deal ever!
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?
Best ever. I would say that is the very reason Ninja is so good. We as traders have a say and we have made it better. If I have an idea, I can get a quote from programmers, or I can even get it free here at futures.io (formerly BMT).
Personally, I have experienced Ninja grow from an electronic execution platform with no charting package to what it is today. I was sure TradeStation was the way, but Ninja just crept up on everyone because traders and programmers could build their ideas inside Ninja. Now I see that every developer wants to sell his Ninja System indicator, and many for much more than Ninja costs. Thankfully all the indicators anyone would ever need are available here at futures.io (formerly BMT). Just become an Elite member.
1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader? - since 2008
2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader? - charting
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without? - multiple-broker acess from same platform/same machine
4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it? - live trading - I use the sim to test some ideas and for the market replay over the weekend
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this? - mostly discretionary but getting my C(#)-legs with the ninjascript feature
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader? Not as easy as I would like - pushing 50, it's not as easy to learn things like I did 20 years ago. Only recently figured out how to change the flashing time on the VCR only to find out no one uses it anymore.
7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it? Haven't needed it...yet.
8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced? Compared to others like TT, hell yeah!
1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader? 1 year
2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader? Market replay
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without? Market replay, C#, no bugs (not few bugs)
4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it? Simulation (paid for)
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this? Discretionary
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader? Difficult due to bugs and strange features (downloading data, etc) but easy UI
7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it? 9/10 - Brandon is the best. Ignore everyone else, they have little idea beyond basic issues.
8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced? Yes, however if it were double without the bugs it would be excellent. My pals, who are successful traders (I'm being honest here ) like Ninjatrader for Market Replay. This feature should be refined so Ninjatrader can also target the high dollar Bloomberg/Reuters/Institutional/Wall Street crowd.
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader? 10/10 easy. Granted Ninjatrader's success is largely because Ninjatrader targets new and inexperienced traders. This is great, but it would be nice to refine some minor things (better market replay interface, data conversion, and keep the rock solid reliability in market replay)
Strategy analyzer is very poor for serious work, but I think any real automated professionals will realize that and not waste their time. I am concerned about newbie's wasting time developing programs with false results.
Market replay appears to me as a hidden gem. I think Ninjatrader LLC underrates market replay. It is genius, and no other software does it as well (Sierra Chart, Multicharts and some cheap legacy software programs from the 90's are all that I know). Bloomberg does not even offer it. Converting historical data to market replay data is a must, however Ninjatrader should continue offering data from their servers for free. It should not cost Ninjatrader much of anything to provide this data, since it is just a onetime download. If Ninjatrader can successfully convert historical data to market replay data (or better yet, they can convert historical data themselves and offer years of market replay data - this might be better due to licensing reasons ) without losing the stability or accuracy of market replay, I can promise many rich guys will buy Ninjatrader. I would also like to be able to automatically go from x5 speed to x1000 in one click, instead of repeatedly clicking fast forward (this is from using it almost every day ). Higher speeds of x10,000 are probably in order, since NT will be using all cores in the future.
1. Been demo trading for about a year.
2. You can use it with various signals/brokers.
3. Must be easy to develop your own indicators.
4. Simulation Only.
5. Discretionary.
6. More difficult then Meta quotes and not as user friendly.
7. N/A
8. Yes
9. N/A
I like NT but the Market Scope with FXCM is by far a better charting program and has good support for indicator development. IMHO.
