I have done both and I can tell you I have learned more from my combine than from a live account. Biggest reason is because you are forced to live within a set of rules which few traders could or would actually follow in the real world. The physiological pressure is much higher in the combine. Not sure why this is other than to say I felt the heat when I did real bad or real good. Perhaps its because you are being evaluated by professional peers @ TST. Whatever it is it makes you think and it makes you want to get better at your craft.

Bottom line: I would recommend any serious trader to go through the combine. If you use it as a tool and if used correctly it will teach you what it takes to be a professional trader.

Honestly, I felt that live would help me more. I have no problems with risk control or discipline which is where most people screw up and blow their combines. I have never blown my daily loss limit in my live accounts with almost 2 years of live trading. Also with my journal I show every single trade and more recently record video on my entire trading day. Having logged more than 100 trades since I started it all on NexusFi (formerly BMT) with complete openness. Maybe I will try a combine at some other time if I am looking for funding. But at this point personally weighing the options, its still simulator with a reward system. So you can "lose" something if you screw it up, which is a set up from just doing sim on your own. But in my mind nothing beats really getting in the market and making or losing your own dollars. There may be benefits I am missing but I just didn't think it was right for me.
