I first started trading stocks when I was 13 (I'm now 67). About 4 years ago, I felt that there was just too much manipulation and corruption in the stock market and got out of it. Then, a couple of years ago, for various reasons, I started playing around with the Forex Market and found that a lot of my trading skills carried over.
A few months ago, my son-in-law tossed me a challenge; to take the position of a young trader with a very modest stake and see how rapidly I could grow it. Since I was quite adapt at trading with larger sums, my early/initial trades were quite a tedious challenge and didn't allow much to any room for error. As I said, I'm rather proud of my first month's results and anxious to see how I do with the rest of THIS month.

Anyway, as my Daily Confirmation testifies, all I'm doing is tracking this open trade:

I attempt to perceive and then trade mini patterns/trends within major patterns/trends. The first, longish trade which I closed today (EURCHF) is an example of how I practiced some patience to wait for the major trend to save a mini trend that failed. The series of trades (USD/CHF) were mini trend trades that were all made in tune with the major trend (long).

I meant to post this, my own spreadsheet/journal, when I filled up half of it ... better late than never. I've highlighted the percentage return, as I think percentages (rather than dollars) are the best way to evaluate results. Now, this may sound contradictory, but I used the AVERAGING CELL to show my average dollar value per trade. At the bottom of the page are figures that show my CARRY OVER CLOSE/NET from the previous spreadsheet and the total NET ROI on my initial investment of $151.50.
I have found that by -- always/only trading the mini trends in the same direction as the major trends, using my original formula to determine lot size, maintaining an adequate trading account AND practicing plenty of patience I can consistently (so far) maintain profitability ... EVEN when the mini trend temporarily trends against me. Of course, this means that (when not trading with limited funds) I only use Stops AFTER I'm ITM (In The Money). For example, note my first trade, below.
(BTW, notice how, after the long traders got out of the way, all the Yen short trends resumed/maintained their trends after the initial spikes from the terrible earthquake. IOWs, if one happened to be shorting the Yen and had no Stops in place, they would have had the opportunity to kick the slates out of their trade.)

Not much to report, as I'm just waiting for the major, short trend to kick in ... probably in the next day or so. Indicators and patterns are still positive for the trade.

For some reason, I didn't get my Daily Confirmation from my broker, today. Maybe they are located in Egypt, Libya or some such revolting place. *:-]
Anyway, I closed out my over-the-long-weekend trade and only eked out about .86% ($22) (see screenshot). Could have probably stayed in a bit longer and made more, but I had chores to tend to and besides, I think that this major trend has about run it's course ... also, I'm a bit bored w/it.
Early in my Forex trading career, I noticed that I have an impatient/eager streak and don't rely on my indicators in various timeframes, as much as I should. I'm addressing and working on that aspect of my trading technique in order to increase my profitability. Hope to be perfect by the end of this contest! *;-}
Since I've already commented and included a screen shot of yesterday's closing trade (see previous post), I don't have much to say about the first trade (EURCHF) in my Daily Confirmation (below).
Whenever I find a possible setup for the EURUSD pair, I generally check in with Sive @ FPA to check out his latest thoughts on that pair. Since he concurred with my perception(s), I opened a trade and went to bed. I love to wake up seeing my pair doing well; so well, in fact, that I extracted another good trade out of the EURUSD before moving on.
Trying to avoid pairs that could be directly affected by the crisis in Japan, I took a couple of trades with the USDCAD and rounded out my best day so far, in this contest.
Not much to report today, as I rejected a run with the USDCAD and then opened another "longish" trade (see below); isn't any point in posting a screen shot. Since I don't trade pairs w/large spreads and, for the time being, the Yen (I've seen the enormous spikes that can happen when the BOJ decides to suddenly (and in the dark of night) "inject" massive amounts of Yen to prop up their economy!) ... the "pickins are pretty slim," as they say in Texas.
My daughter and her family invited a young lady from Japan to visit for a few weeks to improve her English. She arrived just a few days before the tragedies hit Japan. I've noticed that many of the pairs are not creating the trading patterns that I'm familiar with; seems like a lot of irregular confusion in the market. So this morning, after checking with Sive I opening up another long, EURUSD trade. Since the trade seemed to be moving rather slowly, we all decided to take our Japanese guest out to one of our favorite restaurants -- a Japanese/Thai mix -- to get her opinion on the food and help take her mind off what was going on in her home for a couple of hours. She REALLY liked the food and seemed to regain her natural serenity. However, when I got home, I found that I'd missed out on a few hundred dollar spike (Didn't think that I'd be needing a Trailing Stop!). Hopefully/eventually, my major trend will kick in and go ahead and make the trade profitable.
Ah, the thrills and excitement of real time trading! *:-)

Just did on overnight trade, EURUSD and opened another one, which will come out on my next journal entry. Glad I've been avoiding anything to do w/the Yen, as I just noticed that an hour or so ago, the BOJ did a massive intervention.
