I am using NT on a fast laptop with 4 gig memory, most of the time with a second screen.
16 charts (most with two indicators) and three DOMs.
I never had a crash/freeze on this computer.
It works for my day trading business.
Testing and "research" and stuff like forums and chat happens on another computer.
When I bought NT two years ago, I was very convinced to invest in a product with fast development. That is not the case and I have some wishes...
I've had my fair share of problems with Ninja, so I can empathize with you. But my most recent bout turned out to be hardware/driver related.
I also have a mutli monitor setup, and Ninja began hanging one or more times per day for no apparent reason. I finally discovered it was happening on one display in particular when performing certain actions on a chart. It would happen even with just the edge of the chart on that display. Incidentally, I was also able to reproduce the issue with MS Outlook, while my browser and other apps worked fine.
I'm not suggesting this is your issue, but if folks are having problems, it’s definitely something to keep in mind. Although it seems obvious to me now, it was not at all obvious when it was happening.
I had the same problem just a few days ago, later I found I have too many indicators and too many charts and days back, so I cut my charts to 4, reduce the numbers of indicators, and set all the charts days back to 3, NT then works fine now, I think NT just can not handle too many things together.

This is very similar to the solution that my mentors across at shadowtraders advise. They also recommend that NT does not run for hours on end without a reboot - this helps with the daily/latest pivot data etc.
I've tested Esignal for a month or two, didn't like it, slow and, well, old l&f...
A bit like MetaStock, which was a good product, 10 years ago.
NT have a lot of problems, and their are not going to be solve in version 7, and I really want to say :argh-ninjatrader:.
And if you have NT with IB, like me, well, you're not lucky, these two are not made to live together. Last week I was on scalping 5 different stocks at the same time, so when the lastprice is "lost" by NT, and it takes you few minutes to see it, well, you are really upset...
And I'm not talking about the CL and other energy contract joke...
So NT is really not perfect, but when your are a programmer, you can make very nice things with it, and learn to live with it.
Except for the bad NT<->IB interface, where you can't do anything, most issues can be avoided (see Sefstrat post #8), and you can learn to live with the others.
My experience has been mostly positive. I run a few charts/instuments and leave NT running for days without need for a restart. The only issues I've had is with that stupid Market Replay thingy. It constantly hangs. And the recorder always has huge gaps in it (even though I can open the file and see the data in it).
But like others, I am a programmer (since 1980) and would not give up .NET easily. We'll see what 7 has in store.
Their is few threads on this, here on futures.io (formerly BMT) and on the official NT forum.
The main issues, for me, are:
- ETF/Stock last prices stop updating, after a random period. I had, for testing this, another software on the same IB feed, Quotetracker, and it did not had the same issue, so this is not an TWS bug. I asked NT support, no smart answers, and it still not resolved after 3 or 4 NT updates.
- The CL and other energy futures expiry problem: see this long post. Because of this, it's impossible to use automated strat.
- Last week, with an TWS web version, some new errors messages (see screenshot).
It seems that NT support team doesn't talk a lot to IB support team, and the communication part between them is not very reliable...
