You are referring to the navbar "New Posts (xxx)" number not being zero, right?
But does the actual display show posts, or not?
I think I understand the issue now, it's not about caching the write query resetting to zero --- its about caching the new posts query, which has performance implications to disable. Let me think on it and circle back.

This is still occurring, albeit the frequency seems to have gone down. Rate seems to be about 50% now.
