Looks like a great forum. I look forward to reading and offering my input. I have lost a lot of money like most traders but think I have a handle on it.
I started in the Investment business 20 years ago as an Advisor with Merrill Lynch and have traded stocks daily since and still manage accounts for clients.
When I discovered the emini's I thought it would be easy to trade because of my experience. Well that didn't work out so well. I traded the NQ and ES for about 7 months and then discovered the CL. I think the CL offers a lot more volitility and profit potential.
So, I don't know how many out there have lost money trading but I can tell you that trading futues is completely different from trading stocks. If you've lost money, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I use TOS Indicators now using the Think or Swim charts. TOS indicators are not part of what is offered though TOS but were written by an indapendent company. You can check them out though a google search.
I also use the MACD for my trading with a 400 volume chart. I wait for it to start to roll over from an over bought area and watch the zero line for a reversal if it is a weak trade or vice versa if it is over sold. I use the MACD in conjuction with my TOS system.
I also do a bracket order on Wednesday when the oil inventory report comes out at 10:30 eastern. A couple of minutes before the numbers are released, I put an order to buy and sell about 8 to 10 ticks away from price and try to move it closer without getting filled. I only want to be filled when the report hits. The first move is always very fast and you can normally get at least 20 ticks from that move. I always use a stop on this order of 15 ticks.
I hope this helps someone out there with their profits.
Rob.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
My name is Brian and have been trading for about a year and a half. I trade mainly emini futures right now .. mostly the TF .. then ES, YM, NQ and 6E or EC. I use TradeStaion and Ninja as my platforms ... trying to figure out which one I like better. They both have pros and cons to them .. so am watching and using them both and perhaps will phase out of one or keep them both and have back up in case the other fails.
I typically trade price action and will also use support/resistance or supply and demand, Fibs, Pivots, to help confirm or stack up the probabilities of where I can anticipate price to turn. Currently only day trading . no overnight trades for me right now .. I do hope to build up the acct so that I can swing trade in the future.
I would also like to learn Options and how that works as it seems that is a great way to go.
Thanks for letting me join .. look forward to meeting some of you,
Thanks Mike for this Forum. I've been trading off and on for 20 years. Recently trading ETF's in the gold/silver/stock. My experience is similar to Mike's - blew my account out a couple times over the years (namely 2008 and Spring 2011). Having pretty decent success lately and really focusing on risk control this time around.
I used to do this for about 4 months. ENded up slightly negative...
Good concept, but I also didn't use that big of a stop. Mine was about 8 ticks (1/2 of yours) and it would constantly not fill me. I had slippage clocked into my ATM so it would fill no matter what, but anyways it was always interesting!
Thank you to BigMike for creating this very dedicated forum, I look forward to reading & contributing. I have been trading Forex mainly for the last 6 years, and some Options / ETF trading. I have been interested in Futures since about 2 years, but still very hesitant to jump in.
I hope some experienced traders are able to give answers, especially where all brokers and system vendors fail.
I have been taken to task for not introducing myself sooner. Mia Culpa. I have been trading equities
for a few years now, part time. I now hope to trade eminis on a daily bases, for additional income. (Is this even possible?) There is one sector of the markets that I can contribute info about. Its the oil and gas sector
in Canada. I work in the industry (Alberta oil sands) and follow the public company's closely. I am happy to answer anyones questions about public companys in this sector. I look forward to joining your community.
Trade Well. Agdays.
I have been on this forum for some time, but finally registered and am now getting around to posting...
I have been trading part-time for about 14 years now, and have spent many hours on other forums of that time. I have really enjoyed the time I have spent reading at this forum, and am now looking to increase my "screen-time", so I thought it was a great time to get plugged in here. I am really looking forward to it!
Brief Background:
I started trading equities back before the bubble burst, and this was what got me hooked. Over the past 14 years, I have migrated from equities to options to small cap stocks and have finally found a comfortable spot over the last 3 years trading futures. I am currently focusing on the Dow, Oil and Gold.
Anyway...looking forward to learning and contributing!
Hello all,
My name is Steven. I have been trading since 2006 on and off. I serve in the US Army and I'm posted in Germany. I have been a fan of Bigmikes for about 6 months now. I have gained a lot by networking with other traders so I think forms like this are a great idea. I trade mostly ym, tf, es, 6e but am also working towards trading more cl. I use the ninja platform but in the past have used strategy runner as well.
