This is my first post and I would like to thank all the people that make this possible. As many other I started with discretionary trading and it was a really bad and harmful experience, to be honest, at the end at put the trades emotionally ( things like I think it is going up because it's being going down for so long...).
Now I am using automated trading strategies with Ninja Trader. I hope I can help with my knowledge and be helped with all of you.
I would like to thank Big Mike and all the Traders here for making this site a Wealth of information. A little info about myself: I started trading/investing in Stocks in the late 90's. Did OK for awhile till the Tech Bubble Burst. Got hurt so bad I didn't trade for several years. But you know how it is, can't stay away. Actually made some profits for a few years working with Stocks and Tradestation and also swing trading my 401K. Got hurt Bad again in 07-09. A couple years ago Buffett bought out my Employer and totally screwed me on my retirement plans. I worked there 29 years so I semi-retired. Started trading Stocks and ETFs full time with minimal profits. After a small profit last year swing trading I decided to give up stocks. It sucks when the Market is up but your Hold had bad news and you still get your butt whipped. So I moved my accounts to IB and have been dedicating myself to learning the Futures.
Hello , it's Vivian. I am working in Hong Kong as ITEC in a bank. I just started trading FX for 6 months. Wish to learn and contribute to all the buddies on bigmiketrading.com.
Just a quick intro - I'm another Mike (mikro2nd - so just a Small Mike ;-)
Learning about trading via a practice account for about 4 months now - FX only so far, but I may break out into indices/futures at some future date - just trying to get a grip on the basics, right now.
Live in the Southern Cape region of South Africa and planning to try and make a living out of trading.
thanks for the welcome message. I am glad to join your forum.
Since my time as student of economics I trade with stocks. And it´s as life - some times good some times average and some times very bad. But over all it was o.k.
A year ago I started with day and swing trading. Results are also mixed. But it is very stressful to me because I am no gambler and a little risk-avers in my heard. But the strategie works and so I am interested in automation daytrading. As plattform I want to use NT.
My profession is IT expert/ developver and business analyst (self employed).
And sorry for my not so perfect English.
I am CoVal, 6 years on the market, trading forex, some CFDs, futures, etc. I have never tried to trade options - so still I have got something ahead to learn.
Since I work full time I have to rely on automatic trading, and actually this is what really interests me - manual trading I find quite borring, but of course I have a great respect to all those who have enough patience and stubborness to hunt for a signal.
I have tried so far quite a lot of different styles of trading, I have written numerous systems - from a japanese candle pattern recognition to High Frequency Trading Systems.
However the most interesting style for me is a simple Pairs Trading, or I would rather say: Spread Trading - since on oposit sides are sometimes more then 1 instrument.
I am looking for people who have simillar ideas as I do and for some people who would perhaps introduce me (easy way) to option market... .
So at the end of this short introduction I would like to wish all the traders all the best in all their trades !!!
PS
Presently I live in Germany, but since I trade automatically - I trade around the clock.

First, I apologize for my english. Older than most of you, I have started investing in stocks in 1980, with tiny savings and good but very small results. Trading costs (0.7% to the broker + 15-20 dollars to the bank + 3-5 dollars state tax per trade) were often eroding gains, ad magnifying losses. . Of course no tol, no realtime. As the cost of data feed and newsflow were extremely expensive at that time, position trading using the EOD data from newspapers was the std. Even the cost of a computer was too high to even think at it. When I started working I stopped trading. I resumed in 1998 with a PC and a dial up line for order entry. Quotes were in real time but no platform were available. So that I started using Metastock and feed with EOD data. The .com bubble brought the two previous years' fat gains down to zero. A couple of years ago I found myself to start again trading. For a living, this time. Not a discretionary choice. I started studying technical analysis again, just to find that nothing is like before. Everybody says "use only money you can afford to lose". I have to use money I cannot afford to lose instead. I am looking for a way to do it without burning my savings. I know I want to do that. That goal is a prioritary need. I am not looking for the Holy Grail. But it seems 12 hours' day are not enough. I am ready to do my homework, with the goal to make it! Beefheart
It's been forty some years since my first trade, 100 shares of Farrington Mfg at $3. Sold it at $7+ and have been excited about trading ever since. I used that money from the trade proceeds for a down payment on an airplane and started a flying service since I had just earned my commercial pilots license.
I lived the dream for awhile by actually managing a small hedge fund in San Diego until the owner had a stoke and quit. Since then I have been working on refining trading systems and starting my own hedge fund.
Futures and stocks are my main instruments. Any futures work for me, but I focus mainly on the index futures.
I found this forum when googling something and now I'm here.
