Nicely stated George -- Mine is a similar story to George & also slim_pikins -- career-ending injuries + age + wish to be independent + love researching.
As an example -- What are the stories that none of us see on the 7 o'clock news - important stuff that slips past the mainstream media?
And..... what clues do these off-the-big-radar reports provide to us?
But most importantly, can we use this info to inevitably save ourselves from succombing to yet another 'blown-upaccount?'
I cannot even program my VCR - so I am looking forward to sharing some of this type of research with you -- hopefully we can compare notes and gain glimpses of the big-picture events that will positively effect our trading fundamentals.
Hi. I have bought several books, systems, etc, and so far been disappointed.
I have been looking at OPTPro, and in researching them, I came across this
forum. I hope to learn to trade smarter than before. thanks, Mike
My story, briefly, is... I first became a stockbroker back in the late 1980's -- I worked at a couple of smallish regional firms in Minneapolis. Worked on a couple of IPO's, traded mostly stocks (and funds) for a wide range of people (a few of my clients were professional athletes, including a number of guys who played for the Minnesota Timberwolves). Since then, I've worked at a small, family-owned company here in Minnesota -- not related to finance in any way -- and I trade my own accounts ONLY these days. I'm one of those weird guys who thinks about numbers all the time -- a personality flaw -- if you ever meet me in person, I'll "zone out" on you in mid-sentence... that's because I'm chasing-down some meaningless number in the back of my head. Hey, we're all weird... in our own way.
Im new to trading, I've played on a few demo's, learnt some lingo, trawled through millions of web pages and blew a few quid on spreadbetting the indicies.
I wised up and have been learning some basics of forex trading and thats what I'd like to do. Intraday and short term is best suited to my personality.
I would appreciate any help tips guidance pearls of wisdom etc.
Look forward to reading some posts and contributing to the forum.

Just found Mike's site...very impressive. I have been trying to make it as a day trader for about 3 years, doing mostly ES. Not great results. Looking to develop consistency and discipline. Trading has been a great lesson in humility. Hope to share as much as I learn.
Mike, I have to say this is the nicest site and Blog I have every seen on trading.
I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you and even more excited to see what I can learn from everyone to help my trading become more and more profitable.
I’m mainly a scalp trader but also look to capture bigger moves when they present themselves. I mainly scalp trade the YM and place trades on a 133tick and confirm using two higher time frames 399tick and the 1197tick. I also view the YM, TF, NQ, & ES charts set at 30 minutes. And if all else fails I turn my monitors upside down. “lol”
I view trading like I do fishing “I love them both” I see a lot of similarities between both of them. In trading you can scalp and make a few dollars as like in fishing catch a few crappies and have a good meal, also in trading when you catch that big move its like hooking on to a Blue Marlin “Boy oh Boy” it’s hard to hold on to that one at times.
I guess trading is also like golfing just you and the ball and in trading just you and the mouse
I am an ex-software developer and spend probably too much time trying to automate the trading process. I have developed at least 30 different trading strategies using Tradestation. None of them work acceptably except as always maybe the latest one...
I day trade the ES only, using auto-trading and also manually.
I use TS for strategy development, auto-trading and charts and NT for manual order entry.
